Quick Answer: You book a Punjab HSRP (High Security Registration Plate) online through the state's appointed plate manufacturer, by picking Punjab on its region selector, entering your vehicle number and chassis details, choosing a fitment centre and paying online. Vehicles registered before 1 April 2019 must book this themselves.
High-Security Registration Plates are the tamper-proof aluminium number plates every vehicle in India must carry. If you bought your vehicle in Punjab before April 2019, nobody fitted one at the showroom, so the booking is yours to make.

How Do You Book an HSRP Number Plate Online for Your Car in Punjab?
Completion of the booking process consists of six steps to be done through the online state portal and it takes about ten minutes. One warning first: the large multi-state booking portal that serves Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and several other states does not cover Punjab at all. Punjab plates come from a different appointed manufacturer, so start from the region selector rather than from whatever search throws up first.
- Open the appointed manufacturer's region selector and choose Punjab. This hands you over to the Punjab HSRP booking portal.
- Pick your booking type: a full plate set, only the colour sticker, or a replacement for a lost or damaged plate.
- Enter your registration number and chassis number exactly as they appear on your registration certificate. If your RC is lost or unreadable, sort that out first, because a mismatch will stop the booking.
- Confirm the vehicle class and fuel type the portal shows you. These come straight from the VAHAN database, so cross-check them against your digital RC in mParivahan if anything looks wrong.
- Choose a fitment centre near you and an appointment slot. Home fitment is offered in some Punjab pin codes.
- Pay online and save the receipt. The ₹ amount appears on the payment screen before you confirm.
Take the vehicle to the stated centre on the mentioned day. The old number plate comes off and the new one goes on with tamper-evident snap locks. A sticker will also be placed on the windscreen. If you would rather someone handled the form-filling, Jaagruk Bharat offers assisted HSRP booking; the plate is still issued through the official state process.
Which Punjab Vehicles Have to Book HSRP Separately?
Any vehicle registered before 1 April 2019 has to be booked separately by its owner. Under MoRTH notification G.S.R. 1162(E) dated 4 December 2018, every vehicle sold on or after that date leaves the showroom with an HSRP already fitted by the dealer.
The concept of division is simple. Bought new in Punjab after April 2019? Your dealer already did it for you. However, if your vehicle is older, be it a hatchback, motorcycle, tractor, or a commercial vehicle, then you need to book the plate yourself. The same applies if you moved a vehicle into Punjab from another state and re-registered it with an NOC.
What Does an HSRP Cost in Punjab?
Punjab doesn't have any one set fee. The portal calculates your fee from the VAHAN vehicle details and displays it before you pay, so never trust a rate quoted by a third-party site.
| What changes your fee | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Vehicle class | Two-wheeler plates are smaller and cheaper than car or commercial plates |
| Vehicle make | Plate size and fitment vary by manufacturer |
| What you order | A full set costs more than a single replacement plate or a sticker alone |
| Home fitment | Doorstep fitment carries an extra charge where it is offered |
There is a class-wise price list on Punjab's own HSRP portal. Check it there, because state rates are revised from time to time.
What Is the Colour-Coded Sticker That Comes With It?
The sticker is the third registration mark and is placed at the interior side of the windscreen. The colour of the sticker makes it easy for traffic police to recognise the fuel type you are using since one colour is for petrol and CNG, another for diesel and another one for electric vehicles.
Printed on it you will find your registering authority's name, the registration number, the laser-branded permanent identification number and the date of first registration. It is issued along with the plates, so a normal Punjab booking covers both.
How Do You Check Your Punjab HSRP Order Status?
You can track your order through the same platform you have booked your order by using your order identification number or registration number. Plates are manufactured to order, so the status moves from booked, to manufactured, to ready for fitment.
Instead of waiting for a text message, should you find that your status is still the same after two weeks, it is suggested to lodge a complaint on the portal along with your order number. It's very important to read the entire HSRP status tracking process before your fitment appointment.
What If the Punjab HSRP Website Does Not Open?
Sometimes, websites of the state HSRP are not accessible, and Punjab's has been intermittently unreachable. During such times, it is best to be patient and retry through the manufacturer's region selector rather than searching for an alternative.
Here is where people get caught. Search ads and lookalike domains promising instant HSRP delivery have cost vehicle owners real money; therefore, it is best to do some research on HSRP booking scam websites before paying someone. More guides related to cars and documents are in the documents and licensing section.
What Are the Common Mistakes Punjab Applicants Make?
Most delayed or wasted Punjab bookings come down to four avoidable errors.
- Starting on whichever booking portal ranked first in search. The big multi-state portal does not cover Punjab at all.
- Typing the chassis number from memory instead of copying it off the registration certificate. One wrong character fails the VAHAN check.
- Picking a fitment centre far from home. Only the date and time can be rescheduled; the location is locked once you pay.
- Paying an agent found in a search advertisement. Only the state portal issues a receipt the fitment centre will honour.
