Quick Answer: To book an HSRP (High Security Registration Plate) in Gujarat, open the booking portal your vehicle's manufacturer is tied to, enter your registration number, chassis number and engine number, pick a fitment location and pay online. Reach that portal through the HSRP link on Gujarat's Commissionerate of Transport website rather than from a search result.
An HSRP, or High Security Registration Plate, is a tamper-proof aluminium plate carrying a laser-etched unique serial number and a chromium hologram, and it is mandatory for vehicles in India under Rule 50 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989. It is not necessary for individuals to visit the Gujarat RTO (Regional Transport Office) counter for the plate. You book it online with the vendor the state has authorised, then take the vehicle in for fitting.

How Do You Book an HSRP Number Plate Online for Your Car in Gujarat?
You will need approximately five minutes on the vendor portal. Ensure that you have the RC or Registration Certificate handy, as the chassis and engine numbers on the form must match it exactly.
- Open the Commissionerate of Transport's vehicle registration page and follow its HSRP link through to the authorised booking portal for your vehicle's brand.
- Select Gujarat as the vehicle registration state.
- Choose your order type: a full old-vehicle HSRP kit, a damaged front plate, a damaged rear plate, both plates, or the colour sticker on its own.
- Enter your vehicle registration number, chassis number, engine number and pincode.
- Pick a fitment location and an appointment date at a dealer or fitment centre near you.
- Pay online and save the receipt. The order number on it is what you'll need later to check your HSRP status and track the order.
In case the portal rejects your chassis or engine number, the mismatch usually sits in the VAHAN record, and you may need to get a duplicate or corrected RC before the booking goes through.
Which HSRP Portal Is the Right One for a Gujarat Vehicle?
Gujarat has several vendors that are licensed to provide services, however, the required portal used will vary based on the manufacturer and not location.
The Commissionerate of Transport's vehicle registration services page carries an HSRP entry in its services menu, and that link is the state's own pointer to the supplier it has authorised. The supplier behind it has run commercial operations in Gujarat since 16 November 2012 and keeps counters at 35 district transport offices.
That portal serves only vehicles manufactured before 1 April 2019, and only the brands for which it is the appointed vendor. If your vehicle is not listed, Gujarat has a second authorised supplier covering the remaining brands, along with replacement, retention and transfer cases, electric vehicles and tractors.
Neither portal is a government website, so take care in reaching them. Always start from the transport department's own services page. Numerous lookalike HSRP booking sites inflate their fees and don't ship the plates.
Does a Vehicle Registered Before 1 April 2019 Need an HSRP in Gujarat?
Yes. According to notification G.S.R. 1162(E) dated 4 December 2018, vehicles manufactured on or after 1 April 2019 leave the dealership with the number plate and sticker already fitted. So those owners have nothing to book.
The Motor Vehicles (High Security Registration Plate) Order, 2018 states that the existing vehicles can get the plate mounted either through the manufacturers' dealers or the HSRP suppliers authorised by the state. Therefore, vehicle owners in Gujarat book the new fitment through a vendor portal rather than a government one. A non-standard plate can still attract a challan, set by Gujarat's compounding schedule and varying by vehicle class.
What Is the Colour Sticker That Comes With a Gujarat HSRP?
It is the third registration mark: a self-destructive chromium-based hologram sticker, 100 mm by 60 mm, fixed inside your windscreen on the left. It carries the name of the registering authority, the registered number, a serial number burnt with a laser, and the date of first registration.
Its background colour tells enforcement staff what your vehicle runs on:
| Fuel type | Sticker background |
|---|---|
| Diesel | Orange |
| Petrol and CNG | Light blue |
| All other vehicles | Grey |
In case you need a new sticker on account of a defect like peeling or non-issuance, you can now place a request.
What Does an HSRP Cost in Gujarat?
There is no published Gujarat rate card. The cost will depend on your vehicle class and order type and will be shown on the payment screen at the time of order completion.
Be wary of the pricing information you will come across on blogs. Many of these blogs still quote 2021-era Gujarat figures that contradict one another. The price of a complete kit for an old vehicle is higher than that of a single damaged plate, while ordering a sticker would be the cheapest. Jaagruk Bharat offers HSRP booking service but do take notice that the plate is always issued by the state-authorised vendor.
Where Does the Plate Actually Get Fitted in Gujarat?
While you can either go to a dealer's premises or a designated HSRP fitment centre, you can't do it in your own home. The booking portal offers home installation only for vehicles registered in Uttar Pradesh or Karnataka, so a Gujarat owner has to take the vehicle in.
Choose a centre in your own RTO zone; Gujarat's codes run GJ-1 for Ahmedabad, GJ-3 for Rajkot, GJ-5 for Surat and GJ-6 for Vadodara. Bring your RC and payment slip. The fitting is quick; both plates are riveted with non-reusable snap locks, and the old plates are surrendered on the spot. Common Mistakes to Avoid When Booking HSRP in Gujarat
Four errors send most Gujarat bookings back to square one:
- Picking the wrong vendor portal. Match the portal to your vehicle's brand, not to your district.
- Typing the chassis number from memory. Copy it from the RC; one wrong character fails the VAHAN check.
- Choosing the wrong state. Select the state on your registration mark, not your current address.
- Paying on a lookalike site. Reach the portal from the transport department's own page, never from an advertisement.
