Quick Answer: FSSAI licence fees range from ₹100 to ₹7,500 per year. Basic Registration costs ₹100 a year, a State Licence costs ₹5,000 a year, and a Central Licence costs ₹7,500 a year. The fee is charged per annum, and you may apply for a maximum of five years at once.
Your FSSAI fee depends on one thing only: which of the three licence tiers your food business falls into. The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) fixes these rates centrally, so a bakery in Kochi and a bakery in Kanpur pay exactly the same government fee.

What Are the FSSAI Licence Fees for Each Tier?
There are three tiers, and each carries a flat annual government fee. Your annual turnover decides where you sit.
| Licence tier | Who it applies to | Government fee | Fee for 5 years |
|---|---|---|---|
| Basic Registration | Annual turnover up to ₹1.5 crore | ₹100 per year | ₹500 |
| State Licence | Annual turnover above ₹1.5 crore up to ₹50 crore | ₹5,000 per year | ₹25,000 |
| Central Licence | Annual turnover above ₹50 crore | ₹7,500 per year | ₹37,500 |
Two points catch people out. First, importers, exporters, e-commerce food sellers, five-star hotels and head offices spanning two or more states need a Central Licence whatever their turnover. Second, plenty of older blogs still quote a State Licence range of ₹2,000 to ₹5,000; the current fee-per-annum schedule, updated 1 April 2026, sets a flat ₹5,000 for manufacturers, restaurants, hotels up to four star, retailers, wholesalers, caterers, storage and transport units alike.

Are FSSAI Licence Fees Different in Kerala, Gujarat or Delhi?
No. FSSAI fees are identical in every state and union territory. There is no separate Kerala rate, Gujarat rate, Delhi rate, Uttar Pradesh rate, Bihar rate, Haryana rate or Tamil Nadu rate.
The confusion is understandable, because the State Licence is named after the state food safety department that processes it. But the amount itself sits in a single national fee schedule published on FoSCoS, and every applicant pays through the same portal. What genuinely varies between states is processing speed and how often inspectors visit, not the price.
So if you search "FSSAI licence fees kitni hai" for your own state, the answer is the same everywhere: ₹100, ₹5,000 or ₹7,500 a year.
What Is the FSSAI Renewal Fee?
The renewal fee is exactly the same as the new application fee. Renewing a State Licence costs ₹5,000 per year, a Central Licence ₹7,500 per year and a Basic Registration ₹100 per year, as confirmed on the official FoSCoS fee structure.
File at least 30 days before expiry. Applications submitted inside that final month attract a late fee of ₹100 for every day of delay, and once a licence has actually expired you cannot renew it at all; you must apply afresh. Our FSSAI renewal walkthrough covers the timing rules step by step.
Which Food Businesses Pay No FSSAI Fee at All?
Two categories now pay nothing. Hawkers, meaning itinerant or mobile food vendors selling from carts or on foot, have had their registration fee waived since 28 September 2024. Anganwadi (Integrated Child Development Services) centres have paid ₹0 since 12 March 2025.
Both still have to register on FoSCoS and still receive a certificate. The waiver removes the ₹100 charge, not the obligation. A small stall that operates from a fixed spot rather than moving around counts as a petty retailer, and that still costs ₹100 a year.
What Other FSSAI Charges Should You Budget For?
Beyond the headline annual fee, four charges show up regularly.
- Modification - changing details on a live licence costs the same as a new application, so ₹7,500 for Central and ₹100 for Basic Registration.
- Duplicate licence - if you lose your certificate, a replacement costs 10% of the applicable licence fee.
- Railway station businesses - caterers, canteens and stalls on railway premises pay a special Central [Railways] rate of ₹2,000 per year above ₹1.5 crore turnover, or ₹100 as registration below it.
- Late renewal - ₹100 per day, as noted above.
Do remember the multiplier. Because fees are quoted per annum, a restaurant choosing a five-year State Licence pays ₹25,000 upfront, not ₹5,000. Running a small kitchen from home instead? The home kitchen registration guide explains why most home bakers stay on the ₹100 Basic Registration.
How Do You Get an FSSAI Food Licence Online?
You apply on FoSCoS, the FSSAI's official compliance portal, by selecting your tier, filling Form A or Form B, uploading your documents and paying the fee online. The full walkthrough, including document lists and screen-by-screen steps, is in our guide to applying for an FSSAI food licence online.
Where Do You Pay the Fee?
Payment happens on the FoSCoS new licence and registration page, at the end of the application, by net banking, card or UPI. Only FSSAI issues the licence; no private agency can.
If the tier selection or document upload feels daunting, Jaagruk Bharat offers an assisted FSSAI food licence service that handles the paperwork while the fee still goes to FSSAI. For more food-business guides, browse our food and licensing category.
