Quick Answer: You can check your FSSAI application status on the FoSCoS Track Application page without logging in, using your 17-digit reference number. Enter the number, type the captcha and submit to see the current status. A 14-digit number belongs to an issued licence, which you check differently.

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) handles every application on its Food Safety and Compliance System (FoSCoS). If you came here for an FSSAI license status check on a 14-digit number, you need to verify an issued FSSAI licence instead.

How do you track your FSSAI application status on FoSCoS?

Open the FoSCoS Track Application page, enter your reference number and submit. It works the same for a registration (Form A) and a State or Central licence (Form B).

  1. Go to the FoSCoS home page and click Track Application.
  2. Type your 17-digit Application Reference No. The box accepts numbers only.
  3. Enter the 6-character captcha and click Submit.
  4. Read the result card.

The card shows the company name, date of application, last updated date, type of application and its status, with a login link for any further action.

What does your FSSAI application status mean, and what should you do?

Your status tells you which step the officer has reached. The stages below come from FSSAI's FoSCoS guidance document; the words on your card can differ, so match the closest row.

Stage What it means What you should do
Submitted Your application and fee have reached the licensing or registering authority Nothing yet; note the last updated date
Stage 1: jurisdiction check The officer confirms the application belongs to their area Wait; a wrong area can mean it's sent back
Stage 2: document scrutiny Your uploaded documents are being checked Keep originals ready in case of a query
Sent back with a query The officer needs a correction or more information Log in and reply within 30 days
Stage 3: inspection If the officer orders one, a Food Safety Officer visits your premises Keep the premises ready and accessible
Issued Your licence or registration has been generated Log in and open the Issued tab
Rejected The application was refused Apply again with a fresh fee

What happens if FSSAI sends your application back with a query?

You have 30 days to reply; FSSAI's guidance document says an unanswered application is then auto-rejected. Log in to FoSCoS, open Reverted Applications, read the officer's remarks, click Proceed, update the application and submit it again. Regulation 2.1.4(2) gives licence applicants the same 30 days.

Where do you find your 17-digit FSSAI reference number?

It's on the application receipt FoSCoS generates after you pay the fee. FSSAI's guide to applying for a licence or registration calls it a 17-digit reference number "for future reference".

Lost the receipt? Log in and open the Submitted tab on your dashboard. If you haven't filed yet, see how to apply for an FSSAI food licence online.

How long does FSSAI take to process an application?

The FSSAI licensing and registration regulations set different time limits for registration and a licence:

For a licence, the 60 days start only once your application is complete.

Application status or licence check: which number do you have?

A 17-digit reference number tracks an application; a 14-digit number identifies a licence that's already been issued.

Number What it is Where to check What it tells you
17-digit reference number Your application receipt number FoSCoS Track Application Where your application stands
14-digit licence or registration number The issued licence number FoSCoS licence verification Whether a licence is genuine and active

So an FSSAI registration status check before approval always uses the 17-digit number.

What mistakes should you avoid when tracking your FSSAI application?

What can you do if your FSSAI application is stuck?

First log in and look for a query in Reverted Applications, because the public tracker doesn't show the officer's remarks. If nothing is pending and the time limit has passed, call the FSSAI helpline on 1800112100 with your reference number.

The application itself is always decided by FSSAI or your state food safety department on FoSCoS. If you'd like help, Jaagruk Bharat offers assisted FSSAI food licence registration, filing and following up with you on FoSCoS.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you check FSSAI application status by name or mobile number?
No, not on the public tracker. The FoSCoS Track Application page accepts only the 17-digit Application Reference No., in numbers. To find an application without the number, log in with the account you applied from and open the Submitted tab, where every application you've filed is listed.
Can you start your food business while the application is pending?
Only in limited cases. Regulation 2.1.6 lets a licence applicant start if no licence is issued within 60 days of a completed application and no deficiency notice or inspection defect was sent. Registration has a similar 7-day and 30-day rule. Otherwise, wait for approval.
What if you forgot your FoSCoS user ID and password?
Try Forgot Username or Password on the login page first. If both are lost, FSSAI's guidance document says to sign up for a new login and send FSSAI a request signed by the authorised signatory, with a copy of the application and their ID proof. FSSAI then moves it to the new login.
Do you get the fee back if FSSAI rejects your application?
No. FSSAI's guidance document says you must pay the fee again if the authority rejects your application. Read the rejection remarks carefully, fix the documents or details it names, and file a fresh application. Replying to queries within 30 days is the easiest way to avoid a rejection.
When can you download your FSSAI certificate?
Once the status shows your licence or registration is issued. The public tracker only shows status, so log in to FoSCoS and open the Issued tab. FSSAI's guidance document also mentions a Send Mail button there, which emails the licence to you as a copy.
