The Indian government announced that E-KYC verification would become mandatory for LPG consumers. Over 27 million households that rely on LPG cylinders must complete a one-time electronic verification process to continue receiving uninterrupted LPG refills from their distributors. The move aims to link all LPG connections with the Aadhaar database to ensure targeted delivery of subsidies. Additionally, to eliminate duplication or ghost beneficiaries from the system. This would not only rationalise expenditure for the government but also ensure genuine customers are not denied the gas cylinder subsidy.

Mandatory LPG gas KYC online will improve the availability of LPG cylinders for citizens.

The government's PAHAL scheme provides LPG subsidies to the bank accounts of below-the-poverty-line. Further, Aadhaar validation ensures that one family receives a gas subsidy for only one connection. Earlier, the LPG KYC online deadline was extended many times. Yet, consumers who have yet to complete biometric authentication and link Aadhaar will face cylinder deliveries being stopped with no subsidy payment.

Read below to find out more about the benefits, application process, last date to apply, and the need for e-KYC for LPG consumers.

What Is LPG Gas eKYC And Why Is It Mandatory In 2026?

LPG eKYC (electronic Know Your Customer) is a digital verification procedure used by LPG distributors to confirm the identities of Liquefied Petroleum Gas consumers. As it is an online process, people can easily complete the LPG Gas eKYC process from the comfort of their homes. The verification process of gas subsidy eKYC has been strictly mandated for people who are beneficiaries of government schemes, like the Ujjwala Yojana, and hence are entitled to receive financial aid.

The key objectives behind making e-KYC. i.e., Aadhaar Link LPG Gas process mandatory for LPG customers is mentioned below for one’s reference:

1. Link LPG connections with Aadhaar to confirm customers:

This will cut fake connections and target the gas subsidy to genuine households only. Currently, over 4.5 crore LPG connections are not linked to Aadhaar numbers.

2. Cut duplication and weed out ghost beneficiaries:

Mandatory e-KYC will identify and erase duplicate connections that syphon off subsidies. This leakage in the system costs ₹2,000 crore.

3. Improve subsidy allocation:

With a validated customer base, the allocation of LPG subsidies can be optimised. Currently, over ₹30,000 crore is spent on fuel subsidies alone. E-KYC would rationalise expenditures.

4. Enhance LPG coverage:

Eliminating duplicity and ghost connections would reduce waiting times for new LPG connections and enhance coverage across India. Currently, 8 crore households do not have LPG connections.

LPG Re-KYC 2026

LPG Re-KYC 2026 is the re-verification process of one’s LPG connection using Aadhaar-based authentication. In the year 2026, the government has made the Know Your Customer verification process much stricter and tighter than before to ensure that only genuine individuals can receive their LPG cylinders or supplies without any issues.

LPG Gas eKYC Deadline 2026 — Is There a Last Date?

There is no LPG eKYC Last Date 2026 for consumers to complete the biometric or OTP-based e-KYC process. While some transitional challenges are likely, mandatory LPG gas KYC online would bring fairness, transparency, and assurance to LPG distribution over the long term.

The government urges all citizens to complete both Aadhaar linking and biometric authentication at the earliest to receive uninterrupted domestic gas cylinder supplies along with regular subsidy deposits.

Benefits Of Completing LPG Gas eKYC

Making LPG gas KYC online mandatory for availing LPG subsidies and connections would benefit both the exchequer and citizens. Some noteworthy advantages are described below for one’s better understanding:

1. Weeding out around 4 crore fake connections can save ₹5,000 crore in leaked subsidies per year.

2. Reduced waiting time for new LPG connections once duplication is removed.

3. Better targeting of fuel subsidies to genuinely needy households.

4. Availability of ₹14,000 crore for enhancing capital expenditure once savings begin.

5. Connecting 8 crore households that still depend on hazardous fuels like firewood.

6. Empowering women and addressing health issues caused by using raw biomass for cooking.

7. Enabling portability of connections for migratory populations like students or workers.

Thus, mandatory e-KYC is a crucial step towards ensuring fiscal prudence and customer convenience in LPG distribution. Linking Aadhaar numbers with beneficiary databases has demonstrated results in schemes like PDS and NREGA earlier as well. The streamlining of LPG connections would now have multiplier socio-economic benefits in India.

Government Schemes Related To LPG

The government of India introduced several schemes concerning Liquefied Petroleum Gas. Some of the major schemes are:

  • Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana: It was introduced back in the year 2016 to provide LPG connections to rural and Below Poverty Line households. Under this government scheme, eligible people receive financial assistance worth Rs 1600 for installing LPG connections. This govt scheme offers financial assistance for LPG installation, promoting safer and healthier cooking practices. It is mandatory for the beneficiaries to complete the process of PM Ujjwala Yojana eKYC.

  • Pratyaksh Hanstan Labh (PAHAL): The PAHAL Scheme, or the Direct Benefit Transfer for LPG (DBTL) scheme, was launched by the government of India in 2014 to provide a subsidy on Liquefied Petroleum Gas. The main objective of the scheme is to provide subsidies through Direct Benefit Transfer, which means that the amount of the subsidy is deposited directly into the bank accounts of the registered individuals and families.

For online PAHAL Scheme LPG KYC, consumers registered under the PAHAL scheme must:

Step 1: Go to the respective state-regulated website.

Step 2: Enter the registered mobile number and the captcha code shown.

Step 3: An OTP will be sent for verification. Enter OTP and log in.

Step 4: Select the "Give Your Aadhaar" option and enter details for biometric validation.

The subsidy will automatically start transferring into the linked bank account after successful Aadhaar mapping.

For manual LPG gas KYC online, a hard copy of the Aadhaar card must be presented at the nearest LPG distributor agency. After biometric verification, the consumer’s UID number will be tagged to the connection.

Consumers yet to register under PAHAL must first enrol at the official government MY LPG website before doing the one-time LPG KYC online process either online or through agencies.

LPG eKYC Not Working? Common Errors and Fixes

If your LPG eKYC is not working or came as rejected, please don’t worry, as it is a fixable issue. We have compiled a list of common errors and some things that we all should keep in mind while applying for LPG eKYC:

  • One of the most common reasons behind eKYC failure is when one’s Aadhaar is not linked to their LPG. Therefore, please check if they are linked and if not, link them as soon as possible before applying for LPG eKYC.

  • The whole process of eKYC verification is about matching one’s information, like mobile number, with other records, like Aadhaar. But, many times, people’s mobile numbers are neither linked with their Aadhaar nor with their LPG consumer number. Hence, ensure that your mobile number is linked to both your Aadhaar card number and your LPG connection.

  • Please ensure that your personal information, like name, date of birth, address, etc., is the same in different records, like Aadhaar and LPG records, because a mismatch in information can easily lead to delays and possible rejections of eKYC.

Conclusion

By making e-KYC verification necessary for all LPG customers, the government aims to plug subsidy leakages and eliminate duplicity and ghost beneficiaries while enhancing coverage. With fiscal savings, more households can be connected to clean fuel sources. Despite concerns about consent and data privacy, mandatory e-KYC is likely to achieve better targeting of subsidies, ensure genuine beneficiaries are not denied LPG refills, empower women, and boost health indicators.
