Agriculture is one of the most significant professions not only in India but the whole world. However, farmers in India face a range of issues, such as inadequate knowledge, insufficient funds, etc.
To make our farmers more skilled in their jobs, the government of India launched the Student READY (Rural Entrepreneurship Awareness Development Yojana) Program. The program aims to provide both theoretical and practical knowledge to the students interested in farming so that they can conduct farming activities based on scientific knowledge and techniques.

Student READY or “Rural Entrepreneurship Awareness Development Yojana” is a Central Government Scheme. It supports aspiring students in agriculture and related fields with practical skills as well as making them entrepreneurs.
The govt program includes many initiatives that help these students gain hands-on experiences in real rural agricultural settings, thereby building their self-employment abilities and confidence. Experiential Learning, Rural Agricultural Work Experience (RAWE), and internships are all some of its components.
The Student READY Program has several objectives that outline its goals. Some of the scheme’s key objectives are as follows:
To provide hands-on training to students pursuing agricultural studies.
The govt program aims to sow the seed of entrepreneurship so that the students’ career prospects can be widened.
The program also spreads awareness in rural areas so that they can apply for pursuing formal education as well.
The Student READY program aims to keep the students updated with the recent technology so that they can incorporate it while practicing farming themselves.
There are 5 major components of the government program. All the components are laid down below in detail for one’s reference.
This component focuses on helping the students in developing practical professional and personal skills such as competence, capability, capacity building, acquiring skills, expertise, and confidence. All these qualities are needed to be a successful entrepreneur who creates jobs for themselves and others.
Experiential Learning Without Business Mode allows the students to gain practical exposure but without direct involvement in profit-making activities.
Farming is rooted in the rural parts of our nation, so through the RAWE component, the students get a chance to observe agriculture in rural settings, interview with families who are engaged in farming to develop solutions for their real-life problems. Students are also required to study govt schemes related to agriculture and work on their implementation.
Under this component, students are also given insights on soil testing as it is one of the most scientific methods of conducting farming activities.
Through this component, students are given in-plant training wherein they enter an industrial area, study their problems, and devise solutions for the same. This not only provides them with good exposure but a chance to expand their networks as well.
This is a special component as it is specifically for clearing up the students’ minds concerning various sub-fields and getting an in-depth understanding to choose their future career trajectories, all in the form of a thesis.
Subjects for the UG course are listed below in tabular format for extra clarity and to avoid any confusion.
