Despite this, numerous transgender students in India experience struggles in their education due to financial, social discrimination and lack of familial acceptance. Hence, the Government of Odisha launched Pre & Post Matric Scholarship under the Sweekruti Scheme to tackle these problems.
This Odisha Education Scholarship Scheme is executed by the Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (SSEPD) Department, Govt. of Odisha. The purpose of the scheme is to help support transgender pupils to proceed with their education without interruption in a way that invests in their finances. The student scholarship Odisha 2026 is given to students studying in schools/colleges/universities/ different professional institutions, or the Open University.

Sweekruti Scholarship Scheme is a welfare initiative launched by the Government of Odisha for the transgender community for education and social assistance. The Pre & Post Matric Scholarship component, in particular, is concerned with supporting the further education of transgender students at various academic levels.
The government scheme acknowledges that many transgender students drop out of school due to financial restrictions, social stigma and missing educational support services. The Government provides direct support with the intent of decreasing dropout rates and increasing educational participation of the transgender community.
The scholarship applies to students registered in recognised institutions of India. The student can be supported under the scheme provided they fulfil the eligibility criteria while pursuing secondary education, higher secondary education and during the course of graduation, professional courses, and a distance-learning programme.

Applicant should be a permanent citizen/resident of the state of Odisha.
The applicant must identify as transgender in the application.
The student must be a regular student of a recognised educational institution.
The annual income of the family of the applicant should not be more than ₹2,40,000 for a year.
The student should not already be a recipient of educational financial support from one of the Central Government or State Government's scholarship schemes
Scholarship can be obtained only for studies carried out in India.

An admission letter and bona fide certificate from an educational institution.
Income certificate stating annual family income up to ₹2.40 lakh.
Document attesting that the applicant received no other government scholarship assistance.
Show identification; present educational records (if needed).

This scholarship program is currently applied offline via the Block Office or Urban Local Body (ULB) administration offices. Read the steps below to complete the Sweekruti application process:-
Step 1: The applicants have to first obtain or download the application form mentioned in Annexure B of the official scheme guidelines.
Step 2: Carefully fill in the application form with the correct details of personal information, educational qualification, income details, and contact information.
Step 3: Applicants will attach all mandatory documents, such as proof of residence, admission certificate, income certificate, and documents to support these documents.
Step 4: The completed application form should be submitted to the concerned Block Office or Urban Local Body Administration Office.
Step 5: Once submitted, applicants should request a copy of the submission acknowledgement/sent for future reference and monitoring.
