Do not panic if you missed the deadline for Maharashtra HSRP, as there is no late fee involved. The Maharashtra Transport Department has launched the process of attaching the High Security Registration Plates (HSRPs) to eligible vehicles. If a vehicle is still being driven without an HSRP after the individual has been notified of the required deadline, the driver may be fined and/or additional RTO inspections and/or restrictions on RTO services may be imposed.

The HSRPs are a new classification of registration plates that make road riding safer and more secure and help curb vehicle identity theft and the use of fake number plates. If the vehicle is still registered with an old registration plate, installing HSRP at the earliest can help you adhere to the Maharashtra transport regulations without penalty.

In this article, you will get all the detailed information related to the Maharashtra last date, documents, how to apply, and more information.

What Is The Maharashtra HSRP Deadline?

To enhance registration, strengthen road safety, and make vehicle identification mandatory, the Maharashtra Government has made a move to implement mandatory High Security Registration Plates for older vehicles. The obligation mainly covers motor vehicles registered before 1st April 2019 and originally fitted with conventional number plates rather than factory-fitted HSRPs.

The compliance date was subsequently extended several times to 30 June 2026, and enforcement was commenced statewide. Those who plan to use old plates after the deadline will be dealt with during inspections, authorities have confirmed. Here are a few things to know about the deadline:

  • The mandatory HSRP requirement mainly applies to vehicles registered before 1 April 2019 in Maharashtra.

  • This last installation extended deadline was 30 June, 2026.

  • The state's non-compliant vehicle enforcement campaign began on 1 July 2026.

  • Owners of the vehicles are recommended to install them as soon as possible in order to prevent traffic citations.

What Happens If You Miss The Maharashtra HSRP Deadline?

Missing the HSRP deadline does not mean that you permanently lose the opportunity to install the number plate. But if one keeps driving after the date specified for High Security Registration Plate without it, the traffic police or Maharashtra Transport Department may initiate action. The specific action will depend on the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act that apply and upon the nature of the inspection as stated in the state notification.

If the vehicle is not fitted with an HSRP, please schedule an appointment right away via the authorised link. Early compliance will minimise unnecessary inconvenience and make you appear to be taking steps to comply with the legislation. Failure to meet the deadline may result in:

  • During traffic inspections, if your vehicle is detected without a required HSRP, you may receive a fine.

  • Vehicles may be stopped as an assignment to verify during normal enforcement operations by the authorities.

  • Some RTO-related service provisions may be postponed or limited until there is a satisfactory level of compliance with HSRP (as applicable).

  • You may have to spend additional time completing the installation if appointment slots become heavily booked after the deadline.

  • Failure to meet the HSRP requirements as notified may result in creating unnecessary legal hassles during inspections.

Can You Still Apply For An HSRP After The Deadline?

Yes. Missing the deadline does not prevent you from applying for an HSRP. Owners of the vehicles can continue to book an appointment on the authorised HSRP portal for vehicle installations. However, delaying the application further may increase the chances of facing penalties before the number plate is installed.

It is desirable that the Application Form is completed as early as possible and any appointment confirmation kept for further enforcement checks pending installation.

Why Should You Install An HSRP Immediately?

Even if you have already missed the deadline, postponing the installation further only increases the risk of enforcement action. Early installation of the HSRP helps you avoid repeated inconvenience while getting the vehicle inspected under the transport regulations of Maharashtra. There are several advantages to installing now:

  • Helps bring your vehicle into compliance with the most recent Maharashtra HSRP requirements.

  • Cuts down the chances of penalties during traffic enforcement drives.

  • Gives you a tamper-proof, secure registration plate that's hard to duplicate.

  • Improves vehicle identification for theft prevention and law enforcement operations.

  • Makes sure you get a standardised registration plate that matches Government of India specifications.
