Travel is a stressful experience for the majority of the population; on top of that, international travel brings a whole bouquet of stress for people. One of the most time-consuming and worrisome experiences that everyone has to go through during international travel is passing through immigration. To change people’s travel experiences and perspectives, the government of India introduced a new service called the FTI TTP service.

FTI TTP meaning in airport is Fast Track Immigration - Trusted Traveller Programme (FTI - TTP), which is a government initiative under the supervision of the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Bureau of Immigration. The service was launched in the year 2024 and was first unveiled at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi. The main aim of this govt initiative is to allow Indian passport holders or Indians with an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card to use the facility of e-gates at international airports and not go through the traditional manual immigration centres.
This initiative is a part of India’s ‘Viksit Bharat @ 2047’ vision and currently works at multiple major airports across India. The FTI TTP license is valid for a maximum of 5 years until the expiry of one’s passport.
At present, the service of FTI TTP is offered by 13 airports in India. Earlier, the service was limited to 8 airports, but recently, 5 more airports have been equipped with the new service of FTI TTP. Those 13 airports which are situated in the following states:
Delhi
Mumbai
Bengaluru
Chennai
Ahmedabad
Hyderabad
Cochin
Kolkata
Lucknow
Thiruvananthapuram
Trichy
Kozhikode
Amritsar
The service of FTI TTP primarily operates through modern technology, more specifically, the use of electronic automated gates. The gates are not compulsory to use, but optional, and better as it takes 30 seconds for one to complete the immigration verification process, and not 30 minutes or an hour.
All people have to do to use this new service can be broken down into three simple steps. Let’s look at the steps that will make your life easier while travelling:
Step 1: Please scan your boarding pass and passport at the first e-automated gate.
Step 2: Submit your biometrics at the next e-automated gate.
Step 3: As the verification confirms your identity, the gate will open automatically, and you can then pass through it.
Swift and easy, right? So far, around 3 lakh people have already registered to use the service of FTI TTP, and around 2.65 lakh are already enjoying it. The government is also working on expanding it to all international airports in India, starting from Navi Mumbai and Jewar.
