The Digital India Internship Scheme, also known as the MeitY internship, is a govt internship program introduced by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, and implemented by the National e-Governance Division (NeGD). The main aim of this internship program is to help students learn to apply their skills, learn new skills, and observe the operations of a government department.
The internship is for two months, but can be extended up to three months, based on the work and performance of the intern, and is a paid internship. Usually, the ministry opens up 29 vacancies across 23 fields, like engineering, management, law, and others, that the applicants can choose from while filling out the application form. It is not an online internship; hence, selected interns will be required to shift to New Delhi temporarily for the duration of the internship.
There are several objectives of the govt internship program that make it useful and unique, some of which are described below in brief points:
The ultimate objective of the Digital India Internship Scheme is to provide an opportunity to the students to work in the public sector and learn from the real world, not just books.
The government also aims to encourage students to show the practical potential of various diverse fields like engineering, technology, digital governance, etc.
Another objective of the Digital India Internship Scheme is to sow the seed of creative thinking so that young minds can join the public sector soon and contribute in their own way to the nation’s development and growth.
The MeitY internship comes along with a range of benefits for its beneficiaries. Some of the key benefits are mentioned below for one’s better understanding of the scheme:
The govt internship scheme provides an opportunity for students to work and learn in a practical environment, that too a government department. Students can not only learn practical and new skills but also observe the working of the public sector, the sector that is primarily responsible for maintaining law and order in India.
The selected interns are also entitled to receive a monthly stipend worth Rs. 10,000. However, this amount is only payable at the end of one’s internship; therefore, completing the internship period successfully is the key.
Interns are also given a completion certificate issued by the ministry in the intern’s name, upon the successful completion of their internship.
