The Urban Learning Internship Programme (TULIP) was introduced in the year 2021 by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs to connect the urban local body governance with skill development and employment which are beneficial for the youth.
The key objectives of this innovative internship model are:
It helps provide hands-on work experience to students who have already completed their degrees in several functions of urban local bodies like city planning, smart city projects, sanitation management etc.
TULIP helps bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world job requirements by giving trainees exposure to live projects and settings, which brings a level of practicality to their already theoretical knowledge.
TULIP pushes to develop a talented pool of skilled manpower with an understanding of urban problems and governance who can take up careers in these fields.
TULIP aims to boost the employability of young graduates in our country through structured training and mentorship, which will help the trainees build much-needed qualifications as well.
Candidates applying for TULIP must have graduate, postgraduate or diploma degrees in fields that TULIP focuses on such as urban planning, civil engineering, architecture, social work etc.
The age limit for this program is 27 years as of January 1st of the year of enrollment and shall be noted by the candidates. Not being under the age limit will get your application rejected as per program guidelines.
Applicants at the time of applying must be unemployed and should not have a cited source of income from any other source.
Preference is given to those speaking the local language of the state that they’re applying to.
Interested and eligible candidates need to apply online through the programme website which is accessible from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs portal. The steps involved are:
Register online, fill out the application form, and upload all required academic and personal documents.
Shortlisted candidates will be intimated and called for a personal interview at their nearest urban local body.
Following medical examination to ensure good health, final selections will be made based on performance in the interview.
Selected interns will be placed at urban local bodies for 6-12 months based on their qualifications and area of specialisation.
A monthly stipend of Rs. 10,000-15,000 will be provided along with local travel reimbursements for the duration of the internship.
On successful completion, interns will be assisted in finding relevant jobs in the urban development sector with partner organisations.
Overall, the Urban Learning Internship programme presents a major step forward in building skilled manpower and employment opportunities for Indian youth with an optimal blend of classroom and practical experience.
