The state govt of Delhi keeps several things under its focus and one of those focus areas is improving the quality of life of people, especially those who come from the economically backward section or marginalised community of society.

Like all the other state governments, the Delhi Government has also launched several social welfare schemes for the residents of the state.

This article will talk about the top government schemes in Delhi in 2025 that are designed to make the lives of UT residents better and more stable.

Natural Death Assistance For Construction WorkersIt is a health insurance scheme for construction workers wherein when the worker dies due to natural reasons, their legal heir or nominees are provided with monetary support worth Rs. 1 lakh.
Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman NidhiUnder this scheme, every woman resident of Delhi will be provided with Rs. 1000 every month.
Delhi Ladli SchemeIt offers term deposits at birth and other educational milestones into a fund managed by SBI to promote girls’ education.
Delhi Family Benefit SchemeAccording to the Delhi Family Benefit Scheme, monetary support will be provided to families who lose their primary breadwinner.
Delhi Pension Benefit SchemeUnder the scheme, senior citizens are provided with a monthly pension (amount differs as per caste category of the applicant).
Mukhyamantri Tirth Yatra YojanaThe scheme is especially for senior citizens (above the age of 60 years) to visit the pilgrimage sites free of cost.
Delhi Atal Canteen SchemeAtal Canteens will be established in slum areas of Delhi to provide nutrition-rich meals to people from low-income groups for just 5 Rupees.

Need Of Social Welfare Schemes In Delhi

Delhi is home to around 3 crore people which makes it the fifth most populated city in India. With the rising number of people, the number of wants and needs rises as well. a major check of people living in Delhi face a lot of challenges concerning basic resources like shelter, quality education, and nutritious food.

To resolve these issues, the state govt of Delhi launched several social welfare schemes. All the major schemes are described below in detail for one’s reference.

1. Ayushman Bharat Yojana

The Ayushman Bharat Yojana also known as the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) is one of the largest health insurance schemes which would now work in the state of Delhi as well. Eligible beneficiaries would get insurance coverage of Rs. 10 lakh wherein one-half of the amount will be contributed by the state govt of Delhi and the second half by the central government. People from low-income family groups, senior citizens, and the residents of Delhi, would finally be able to reap the benefits of this health insurance scheme.

2. Delhi Arogya Nidhi

The state govt of Delhi launched a scheme called the Delhi Arogya Nidhi under the supervision of the Directorate General of Health Services. Under the scheme, people in need of urgent medical care with National Food Security Cards are provided with financial assistance worth Rs. 1.5 lakh. The scheme is only connected with government hospitals, not private ones.

3. Natural Death Assistance For Construction Workers

The Natural Death Assistance For Construction Workers was launched under the supervision of the Delhi Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board (DBoCWWB), Labour Department. It is a health insurance scheme for construction workers only. As per the scheme, when a registered construction worker dies due to natural reasons, their legal heir or nominees are provided with monetary support worth Rs. 1 lakh.

Application Process:

  • Interested individuals can apply for the scheme through the DBoCWWB official website.
  • Fill in the application form and upload the supporting documents to successfully register for it.

4. Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Nidhi

The state govt of Delhi launched another major scheme called the Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana, especially for women residing in the UT. Under this scheme, every woman resident of Delhi will be provided with Rs. 1000 every month. The scheme aims to provide financial assistance to women and empower them financially.

Application Process:

  • Interested individuals can apply for the scheme through the scheme’s official portal which will be launched soon. As soon as it launches, the steps of the application will be informed.

5. Delhi Ladli Scheme

The Delhi Ladli Scheme was launched by the Department of Women and Children Development in the year 2008. The Girl Child Social Welfare Scheme aims to empower them in Delhi through financial assistance. It offers term deposits at birth and other educational milestones into a fund managed by SBI to promote girls’ education, reduce dropout rates, and enhance their social status.

Application Process:

  • The guardians of the girls can apply either by visiting the District Office or through their girl child’s school.
  • Request an application form for the scheme, fill it out accurately, and submit it there itself.

6. Delhi Family Benefit Scheme

According to the Delhi Family Benefit Scheme, monetary support worth Rs. 20,000 will be provided to families who lose their primary breadwinner. The scheme is specifically designed for families from low-income groups so that they don’t stay deprived of basic necessities because of the unfortunate death of their only earning family member.

Application Process:

  • Interested individuals can apply for the scheme through the official e-District portal by completing registration.
  • Fill in the application form and upload the supporting documents to successfully apply for it.

7. Delhi Pension Benefit Scheme

The state govt of Delhi launched a pension scheme for the senior citizens residing in the state called the Delhi Pension Benefit Scheme. Under the scheme, senior citizens between the ages of 60-69 years are provided with a monthly pension of Rs. 2000 and Rs. 2500 for senior citizens who are above the age of 70 years or 60 years if they come from the SC/ST community.

Application Process:

  • Interested and eligible people can apply for the scheme through the official e-District portal or the website of the Delhi Municipal Council.
  • Fill in the application form with accurate details, attach or upload the supporting documents, and submit it for successful registration.

8. Mukhyamantri Tirth Yatra Yojana

The Government of Delhi has launched the Mukhyamantri Tirth Yatra Yojana also known as the Delhi Tirth Yatra Scheme especially for senior citizens (above the age of 60 years) to visit the pilgrimage sites free of cost. The govt scheme was designed to fulfil the lifelong dreams of senior citizens and enable them to visit their desired places.

Application Process:

  • Interested individuals can apply for the scheme through the scheme’s official website by registering.
  • Fill out the application form, and submit it for further verification and approval.

9. Delhi Atal Canteen Scheme

The state govt of Delhi launched a new scheme called the Delhi Atal Canteen Scheme under which Atal Canteens will be established in slum areas of Delhi. The canteen will provide nutrition-rich meals to the people from low-income groups in just 5 Rupees.

The various social welfare schemes launched by the state govt of Delhi have changed the lives of people drastically and for the better.
