It is the 21st century also known as the digital century. We are now equipped to perform numerous functions ranging from important financial transactions to communicating with people worldwide through just a click. However, this has also opened the gates for some people to think of ways of conning others through online scams.
To ensure that people stay safe from the growing online scams, the Department of Telecommunication launched the Sanchar Saathi Mobile application to provide people with an extra layer of security. Along with the app, the Union Minister also announced the launching of the National Broadband Mission 2.0 and Intra Circle Roaming at DBN-funded 4G sites.

Recently, the Union Minister of Communications, Sh. Jyotiraditya M. Scindia announced the launch of three major initiatives. All the initiatives aim to increase and strengthen the existing digital security measures.
The government announced the launch of a mobile application called the Sanchar Saathi application. It is available for both, android and iOS users. The application has several features, all to increase the security layer for protecting people’s personal data such as:
Chakshu: Allows users to report suspicious calls or messages directly from their logs.
Mobile connections: Users can identify and manage all mobile connections issued in their name.
Blocking: If the users lose their devices, their mobile phones can be traced, blocked, and recovered easily.
Genuineness of devices: Users can also verify the authenticity of mobile phones and purchase from genuine sellers.
The National Broadband Mission (NBM) aims to spread the connectivity of the internet across the nation no matter how remote the area might be. NBM 1.0 successfully established around 8 lakh towers which increased the broadband subscription from 66 crore to 94 crore.
Likewise, the National Broadband Mission 2.0 would work on establishing towers in the remaining 1.7 lakh villages of India so that they can enter the digital world and improve their lives.
NBM 2.0 aligns with the national mission of Viksit Bharat by the year 2047. It would have several benefits that would help people in their transition from traditional methods to digitised methods such as:
Broadband connectivity will be provided to various institutions like schools, Anganwadi Centres, and Panchayat offices by the year 2030.
To make the infrastructure ready for 5G and 6G networks so that whenever they come into the nation, they can work smoothly and efficiently.
At least 30% of mobile towers will be established with sustainable energy by the year 2030.
The mission also aims to enhance the use of the Call Before u Dig (CBuD) mobile app.

Digital Bharat Nidhi (DBN) is a govt initiative that aims to equip rural and remote areas with all the necessary infrastructure so that they can access internet facilities from their homes. Towers set up under DBN are for only those users who use the services of specific Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) like BSNL, Airtel, and Reliance.
Recently, the govt announced and inaugurated the Intra Circle Roaming (ICR) at DBN-funded 4G sites. This newly launched initiative would allow even those users who don’t use the services of the major TSPs to enjoy 4G services. The whole govt initiative aims to provide 4G connection to around 35,400 rural and remote villages by setting up 27,000 towers.
All the newly launched govt initiatives. i.e. Sanchar Saathi Mobile application, NBM 2.0, and Intra Circle Roaming (ICR) at DBN-funded 4G sites aim to increase the connectivity of the internet irrespective of geographical location and also protect people’s data so that they can stay protected from online scams.
