Art and aesthetics are some of the most crucial aspects of our lives, whether we agree to it or not. India is the most populous country in the world where everyone has unique talents and professions and one of those professions is the profession of artisans. Artisans bring to life the most exceptional pieces in traditional crafts, painting styles, pottery, weaving, metal casting, etc. But unfortunately, they are one of the most undervalued and underappreciated professions.
The government of India recognises their effort and hence introduced a digital platform called Tulips as a step to improve the professional lives of all artisans, especially from the marginalised communities like Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs), Other Backward Classes (OBCs), cleaners, Persons with Disabilities (PwDs), and other minority communities.

Shri Virendra Kumar, Minister of Union Social Justice and Empowerment inaugurated the digital platform for artisans called Tulips which would work under the management of the National Backward Classes Finance and Development Corporation (NBCFDC) and the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
Tulips is a measure taken by the Indian government to improve the professional lives of artisans. The govt scheme would help them in a range of components such as networking (domestic and international), ways to increase the profit margin of their arts, and other related components. This would help them monetise their beautiful works for which they couldn’t earn much before.
The digital platform for artisans would be equipped with a range of features. Some are listed below for a glimpse:
User-friendly: The platform would be user-friendly. i.e. easy to use by anyone without the need of any extensive technical knowledge.
Multiple languages: Tulips would be made available in various regional languages of India so that artisans from every part of the country would be able to make use of them without any external help.
Art display: Artisans would be able to showcase pictures of their art on the digital platform for artisans and attract clients.
Direct sales: Tulips aims to remove the role middlemen play in the process of buying and selling art pieces. Now, artists would be able to sell their pieces to the clients themselves.

The ultimate vision of Tulips is to let artisans do what they enjoy the most and make a successful living out of it, especially those artisans who come from marginalised communities like Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs), Other Backward Classes (OBCs), cleaners, Persons with Disabilities (PwDs), and other minority communities.
Art is a very sacred kind of profession where creativity and emotion come together and hence, it is the government’s responsibility to let the country’s artisans grow and develop both, professionally and personally. Shri Virendra Kumar expressed that this govt scheme is in alignment with the government’s ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikaas, Sabka Prayas, Sabka Vishwas’ motto which means inclusive development for one and all.
Tulips is a digital platform for artisans recently launched to improve the lives of all artisans, especially those who come from the marginalised communities of India. It is an exceptional initiative that would help the artisans of the country grow, develop, and spread the beauty that lies in India.
