The Maha Kumbh Mela in the city of Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh is expecting one of its major bathing days on the 12th of February on the occasion of the Maghi Purnima Snan which is the fifth sacred day out of six days in total.
To ensure that the crowd moves smoothly and efficiently without any instances of unfortunate accidents or mishappenings, the authorities have established some New Traffic Rules. All those rules are mentioned below in brief for one’s better understanding and reference:
People aren’t allowed to take their vehicles in the fair areas including the vehicles of Kalpvasis (people who reside in the Mela for a set period) as it has been declared as a no-vehicle zone. However, there are designated parking areas where people can park their vehicles and then enter the Kumbh Mela.
Authorities are instructed to prevent the long queues of traffic forming on roads as they are one of the biggest challenges to tackle if once formed.
The decision to introduce and establish New Traffic Rules has been made because of the recent unfortunate stampede that took place in the Maha Kumbh Mela on the 29th of January. Around 30 people lost their lives and many were severely injured in the stampede.
A three-member judicial commission comprising Justice Harsh Kumar, Former Director General V.K Gupta, and Retired IAS Officer V.K Singh has been formed by the government to evaluate the causes of the stampede. The Chief Minister of UP also announced that they will be giving Rs. 25 lakh to all those families who lost their loved ones in the stampede as compensation.
The New Traffic Rules announced for the 12th of February on the occasion of the Maghi Purnima Snan are expected to keep people safe. If you’re planning to visit or are already in the Maha Kumbh Mela, we request you cooperate with the authorities and keep each other safe and sound. Please remember that nothing is more precious and important than the lives of you and the people around you!
