Kerala has marked an exciting step in its tourism sector by providing new transport connectivity. The state’s first-ever seaplane service was launched at the Bolgatty Waterdrome in Kochi Lake. The “De Havilland Canada” seaplane which came from Vijayawada, was met with a water cannon in a grand show. This marks the commencement of a very different journey.
The first trial run between the Bolgatty Palace and Mattupetty Dam was flagged off by State Tourism Minister P.A. Mohammed Riyas with the hope of giving travellers a quicker and more exciting way to see the sights of Kerala.
The seaplane service aims to link the airports in Kerala to the backwaters and scenic sights of the state and make travel faster.
Increased Connectivity: A new route connects all four airports in Kerala to its beautiful backwater destinations making it more convenient for the people and the tourists.
Passenger Easiness and Accessibility: Seaplanes with capacities of 9, 15, 17, 20 and 30 seats are there. Supportive prices facilitate and encourage a great deal of possibilities for travellers.
Operators and Infrastructure: The service is operated by SpiceJet, a Swiss-based private company. Waterdromes will be built in key locations such as Kovalam, Bekal, Ashtamudi, Kumarakom, and Vembanad to support smooth operations.
This new service is not just about connectivity; it offers several advantages for tourists and locals alike.
Time-Saving: Travel times between important locations can be reduced to under 30 minutes, making it a quick and efficient option.
Boost to Tourism: The service allows visitors to easily access Kerala’s top attractions, such as its serene backwaters and famous landmarks.
Affordable for All: With subsidised fares, the seaplane experience is made accessible to both locals and tourists, encouraging more people to use this unique transport option.
To further enhance connectivity, wardrobes are planned at several potential sites:
Kovalam
Bekal
Ashtamudi
Vembanad
Punnamada
Kumarakom
Malampuzha
Kerala’s new seaplane service is a game-changer for tourism and connectivity. By combining scenic travel with faster transport, this initiative offers locals and visitors a memorable way to explore the state. With subsidised fares and better infrastructure, the service is set to make Kerala an even more attractive destination for travellers.
