What Is An HSRP?

High-Security Registration Plates (HSRPs) are license plates to be installed on vehicles. They have been introduced under a new rule established by the state government of Maharashtra for all kinds of vehicle owners in the state. The new plates are equipped with extra security measures so that people’s vehicles can stay protected and safe.

At present, people can apply for HSRP online registration if they are the residents of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Odisha, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, Daman & Diu, and Andaman & Nicobar Islands. What Are The HSRP Colour Codes For Vehicles?

There are 3 major colour codes introduced by the state government. The colour codes have been designed to identify the vehicle’s fuel type and Bharat stage emission standard. The colour codes are to be placed on the windscreen of vehicles. The 3 colours are:

  • Blue for petrol and CNG vehicles
  • Orange for diesel vehicles
  • Green for electric vehicles

Are High-Security Registration Plates Mandatory For New & Old Cars?

According to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways of India (MoRTH), HSRPs are compulsory for all vehicles, whether new or old. All the vehicles that are purchased before the year 2019 are to be installed with HSRPs. Please note that applying for HSRP online registration can be done following the old procedures only; however, people who want to apply for HSRP number plate registration for antique vehicles may have to visit the RTO office.
