TRAI scam is one of the major scams that is making the rounds and only to defraud the public on the pretext of working for the TRAI. The modus operandi is that they call people and tell them that their phone numbers have been used in frauds or their KYC details are incomplete. They ask the person to connect with customer service upon doing so can lead to sharing sensitive information like Aadhaar, PAN, or bank information details.
This con uses fear tactics along with urgency which makes users anxious and share sensitive information like aadhar details, bank details or other sensitive information.
Scammers are using fake calls to trick people into sharing sensitive personal information. These calls claim your phone number is linked to fraud or has incomplete KYC details. Here’s how the scam works:
The Call:
You receive a call, often from numbers starting with +67 or +68.
A pre-recorded message says your number is linked to fraud and will be disconnected.
The Trick:
The message prompts you to press ‘9’ for customer care support.
A “customer care representative” (the scammer) explains that you have incomplete KYC for multiple numbers registered under your name.
The Scam:
They create panic by saying your numbers will be blocked.
They ask for personal details like Aadhaar or bank information to “complete KYC.”
Once you share these details, the scammers can misuse them.
