How Does This Scam Work?

The scam across fake SMS messages is done in a way that creates urgency and panic. Here’s how scammers try to deceive users:

1. You Get a Fake SMS:

  • The message states that your package is stuck in a warehouse because the address is incomplete.

  • It convinces you to change your address within 24 hours or risk having your parcel sent back.

2. It Contains a Fraudulent Link:

  • The message carries a scam link masquerading as an India Post website.

  • Clicking on the link sends you to a lookalike page pretending to be India Post’s official site.

3. You Are Asked for Personal Information: The website asks you to submit your personal information like:

  • Name

  • Mobile Number

  • Location

  • Bank Credit Card Information

4. Your Information Is Stolen & Misused:

Cybercriminals use the obtained information for:

  • Stealing of identity

  • Unwanted monetary transactions

  • Your data is sold on the dark web.

In certain cases, the deceitful site may also inject harmful software or malware into your mobile or computer, which further puts your security at risk.

With online fraud on the rise, it’s crucial to stay vigilant and protect yourself from cyber scams. Here’s how:
