With the innovative creations in the vehicle department, the number of motor vehicle accidents has been on the rise as well. In India, every year around 1.5 lakh people suffer a motor vehicle accident. To ensure that doesn’t happen, the government of India announced a rule for truck and bus drivers concerning the installation of Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS) and other systems such as electronic stability control, automated emergency braking, driver drowsiness detection, etc. not only for their safety but for others driving on the road as well.

Recently in a Transport Development Council meeting, Shri Nitin Gadkari, Minister of Road Transport and Highways announced a major compulsory rule for the truck and bus drivers. All truck and bus drivers must install Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS). These hi-tech systems won’t only help the drivers in safeguarding their lives while on the road but others as well.

Particulars Of The New Rule

There are some key details about the new rule concerning the installation of Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS). All those are mentioned below in brief for one’s better understanding and reference:

ADAS: Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems would be installed along with other systems such as
Electronic stability control to reduce the risk of rollovers and collisions by monitoring the vehicle.
Automated emergency braking would prevent accidents from happening by acting on behalf of the driver and pressing the brake.
Driver drowsiness detection would monitor the driver’s fatigue level and determine if they are in the ideal condition of driving or not.
Reducing the rate of motor vehicle accidents: These new systems are compulsory so that the number of people who experience any accident on the road leading to disability or death can be reduced as much as possible.
Expansion: The government also plans to expand the working of the rule and mandate the installation of ADAS and other protective measures in e-rickshaws as well.
No timelines: As of now no set timeline has been announced for the implementation of the rule.

Need For Such Security Systems

Every life matters and no nation can afford to lose the precious lives of its citizens especially when the cause is motor vehicle accidents. Motor vehicle accidents are on the rise especially involving buses and trucks due to a variety of reasons such as tired drivers, unreasonable shift hours, inadequate facilities in buses and trucks, etc.

The installation of security systems would be an added protection layer for both the drivers and the people on the road. This was a much-awaited initiative and now that it is finally being done, it will save the lives of millions.
