The Union Budget 2025-26 sets an ambitious target of generating more than 21 lakh jobs through direct and indirect employment opportunities. The main job creators in this region are fisheries industries plus tourism alongside food processing businesses and electronic manufacturer facilities. The Prime Minister Vishwakarma Yojana and PMEKP programmes help people create their careers while obtaining new job skills.

PM Vishwakarma Yojana: Boosting Self-Employment

The government expedites PM Vishwakarma Yojana to help 61 lakh artisans gain self-employment through the training and funding of women and members from socially disadvantaged groups. This programme supports training and financing while updating conventional arts and crafts.

PM Internship Scheme: Strengthening Corporate Training

The Ministry of Corporate Affairs began testing the PM Internship Scheme through a pilot programme. Under the PM Internship Scheme, the government plans to make 125000 internships available at top companies with an allocated budget of 840 million rupees. The system has already listed 1.27 lakh internship jobs while gathering 6.21 lakh applications across all departments.

Enhanced Industrial Growth In the Northeast

The government established 25 industrial projects in the Northeast for economic expansion that will generate 1.2 lakh new jobs. Under the modified scheme UDAN the government now wants to serve 120 new regional places while also backing small airports and mountainous helipads through better connectivity.

Semiconductor & Electronics Manufacturing: Slow But Steady Growth

The government’s push towards semiconductor manufacturing under the India Semiconductor Mission is expected to generate limited employment in 2025-26 as projects are still under construction.

  • The Tata Electronics-Powerchip plant in Gujarat remains unfinished so their Semiconductor Fabrication Plant will create fewer than 100 positions.

  • Projectors targeting computer chips will produce 1,200 new jobs this year while last year they delivered 1,400. Chip manufacturers Micron, CG Power, and Kaynes Technology lead business investment.

Conclusion

The budget for 2025-26 includes a clear path to employment by planning to develop more than 21 lakh jobs in fishing, tourism, and manufacturing sectors. The government intends to create long-term employment through promoting self-employment together with industrial growth and training programmes. Traditional manufacturing and small businesses will take charge of creating employment despite the semiconductor manufacturing industry being young.
