The Bhagyalaxmi Yojana is a children's scheme for girls in India that aims to provide support for education, health, and general development for girls coming from financially weaker background societies. This shall help eliminate the economic barriers that often are prevalent in limiting girls’ growth and educational cycles.
This scheme aims to empower and uplift the girl children not only from well-to-do families but also from poor families. The yojana focuses on the welfare and growth of the girl child, which aims at bringing long-term change in society. It is designed to achieve the following objectives:
Encourage poor families to have more baby girls.
To increase the status of girl children in society.
To provide financial assistance to the girl child through her mother/father/natural guardian, subject to the fulfilment of certain conditions.

The government scheme is for the support and financial help of the girl child; the beneficiary is the mother, father, or natural guardian. The key provisions are:
The amount of scholarship will be provided every year to the girl of Rs 300 to Rs 1,000 till the 10th standard.
To promote the birth of girl children in economically weaker families and to raise their status within the family and society.
The child health insurance coverage would be surrendered up to a maximum of Rs. 25,000 annually.
To provide financial assistance to the girl child through her beneficiaries, who can be their mother, father, or natural guardian as long as they fulfil the eligibility criteria.
Under the Bhagyalaxmi Yojana, an eligible girl child is awarded an annual scholarship based on her level of education, which can range up to Rs 300 to Rs 1,000. This helps reduce some of the school fees and books, etc.
To ensure that all individuals receive the benefits equitably with equal deservability, specific eligibility conditions are laid down. It focuses on further promoting the wellbeing and safety of the girl child.
Birth of a girl to be registered within one year after her birth date.
Girls are not to be employed in any child labour.
Benefits from the Bhagyalakshmi scheme are eligible for all BPL families having up to 2 female children.
Girls must have been vaccinated properly.
A girl child must have been born after 31 March 2006 in a BPL family.
A girl must have passed the class eighth standard to be qualified for the maturity amount.
She cannot be married off before turning 18 years old.
