Farming is an elaborate process and requires different implements and services to ensure that the produce is not only good in quantity but is also qualitative in nature. The availability of all requirements such as fertilisers, farming equipment and implements, soil and crop testing facilities, awareness centres, etc. at different junctures makes it hassling for the farmers. 

To aid the farmers and facilitate them, the Government of India launched Pradham Mantri Kisan Samridhi Kendras (PMKSKs). 

What Are Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samruddhi Kendras (PMKSKs)?

Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samridhi Kendras (PMKSKs) have been introduced as One-Stop-Stores for all their needs and requirements. The PMKSKs will replace the retail fertiliser shops and serve as retail stores for a variety of needs such as seeds, soil testing facilities, etc. Launched on August 14, 2022, the PMKSKs also seek to provide good quality fertilisers and urea under the brand name ‘Bharat’. 

The different services that will be provided by the PMKSKs are:

• Agricultural Inputs

• Fertiliser/Seed/Soil Testing Facilities

• Awareness and Information

• Capacity Building and Technological Advancements

The PMKSKs are a major step towards centralising services and providing them at one store instead of scattered centres. 

Benefits Of Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samruddhi Kendras (PMKSKs)

The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samruddhi Kendras are temples of services for farmers. They provide multiple amenities under a single roof. Let us look at their benefits: 

• Agricultural Aids and Inputs: The PMKSKs provide all sorts of seeds, pesticides and insecticides at affordable rates. They also provide farm implements such as spades and nitrogenous and phosphorus-enriched fertilisers at cheap rates. 

• Informative and Advisory Services: The PMKSKs will also serve as awareness centres that will engage in the propagation of government schemes, good agricultural practices (GAP) and methods of growing different crops. 

• Common Service Centres: The PMKSKs will also serve as service and informative centres for crop insurance, weather forecasting services, analysis of nutrients and soil type, and promotion of adoption of nutrients packages based on test results and different farm commodities and implements. 

• Kisaan-Ki-Baat: The regional PMKSKs will engage in Kisan-Ki-Baat wherein the Department of Farming will broadcast its views and suggestions and will respond to queries. 

• Kisan Samruddhi Samuh: The launch of PMKSKs recognises technological advancement and seeks to adopt modernised ways of information propagation and awareness alongside other methods. A WhatsApp group under the banner ‘Kisan Samruddhi Samuh’ will engage in the delivery of all relevant information such as weather forecasting, and rates of farm supplies in different agricultural markets (mandis). 

• Farm Implements: The availability and sale of different small as well as large implements that are to be used in the farming process will be aided through Custom Hiring Centres.

The Kendras play a crucial role in transforming the agricultural policy of the state as well as the adoption of such practices by the farmers.
