How India Is Pushing Forward For a Greener Future With National Mission On Natural Farming!

Let’s learn how this sarkari yojna is helping farmers.

What Is Natural Farming?

Natural Farming, also called zero-budget natural farming, is a process where farmers use only natural and organic ways for their production, without the use of pesticides, insecticides and other harmful chemical substances which are known to harm the produce and the land it is being produced in as well.

Instead, farmers rely on already set techniques like the usage of locally bred cattle for manure preparation from cow dung and urine. Other practices include multi-cropping to control pests naturally and making herbal mixtures from organic and natural sources available.

Objectives Of The NMNF Govt Scheme

The NMNF aims to popularise these traditional methods on a large scale by doing the following:

  • Awareness: Educating farmers about the financial and health benefits of switching to natural practices.

  • Training: Supporting the training of 'champion farmers' to impart skills to others through village-level programmes.

  • Infrastructure: Providing subsidies for building one-time manure production facilities on farms.

  • Groups: Promoting Farmer Producer Organisations to aid marketing of chemical-free produce.

  • Research: Documenting diverse regional natural farming techniques and supporting on-farm trials.

Benefits For Farmers

  • In addition to incentives for waste infrastructure, farmers will receive training and capacity building. This will educate them further, sharpen their skills, and help them maximise profit while cutting costs on artificial farming.

  • Farmer Field Schools in the initial year will spread awareness and help farmers realise the harm caused by the chemicals being used and how it negatively affects the land on which they cultivate, enlightening them to switch to green practices for good.

  • Financial assistance is also provided to the FPOs, helping natural farmers market products altogether.

  • With reduced external input costs required for purchasing fertilisers and other chemicals, natural cultivation could potentially boost farmer incomes in the long run while protecting soil and environmental health.
