In a country as vast and diverse as India, unemployment remains a critical issue affecting millions of people, especially the youth. The government has been addressing this challenge through various schemes and initiatives aimed at providing financial support to the unemployed.
One such initiative is the Pradhan Mantri Berojgari Bhatta Yojana, which offers monetary assistance to unemployed individuals, helping them help themselves as they search for employment.
The Pradhan Mantri Berojgari Bhatta Yojana is a major step towards helping the unemployed. This scheme gives cash support to unemployed youngsters to aid their sustenance as they search for livelihoods.
Under certain criteria, this programme guarantees up to 50% of the lowest wage for unemployed individuals. The fixed monthly income support assists candidates between 18 and 40 years old with no job. The scheme targets enrolling over 30 crore beneficiaries over the next 5 years.

The PMBBY scheme is very important in helping gig economy workers and labourers. The need for this scheme can be summarised as:
Incentivising gig and labourers to start saving early for post-60 income stability. The scheme teaches a savings mindset among employed youth.
The monthly pensions can cover the daily expenses and healthcare needs of dependent parents. In the meantime, allow youth to focus on skills and career growth.
The fixed pensions expand the risk appetite among youth to pursue alternate livelihoods.
By reducing vulnerability to income shocks, the scheme allows youth to devote prime years to shaping their career.
The least 50% wage support helps prevent the disenchantment of youth who couldn’t secure jobs. This temporarily cushions their expenses while they continue applying for or exploring self-employment.
The scheme offers retirement planning for unorganised labourers. They lack job security or retirement benefits under most private temporary contracts.
This will prevent beneficiaries from taking up informal, unstable jobs out of desperation. While allowing them to look for suitable opportunities matching their skills. Gainful employment for skilled youth would prevent disenchantment and unrest.
Productive channelisation of human capital feeds the economic growth cycle. Direct benefit transfers into bank accounts help widen participation in formal financial channels.
