The world has come a long way from slow-speed internet to fast and today we have the 5th Generation (5G) internet. People are shifting their operations from 4G to 5G for quick internet connectivity and efficient working.
In line with the same shift, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) recently announced this year's 5G Innovation Hackathon.

5G Innovation Hackathon 2025
The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) announced the 5G Innovation Hackathon for the year 2025. The primary objective of Hackathon 2025 is to encourage people from all parts of the country to innovate 5G-powered tech measures for present societal and industrial hurdles. The hackathon will work with a budget of around 1.5 crore.
The 5G Innovation Hackathon would last for 6 months. Students, startups, and professionals can be a part of the event. The Hackathon 2025 will not only provide participants a platform for their ideas but also grant them funding, mentorship, and access to over 100 5G Use Case Labs. All of this will help people turn their innovative ideas into practical ideas.
Structure Of The 5G Innovation Hackathon 2025
The Hackathon 2025 is divided into several stages to keep the event as organised as possible. The stages are described below in detail:
1. First Stage: Proposal Submission
In the first stage, participants are required to create a proposal outlining the targeted problem issue, the proposed solution, and the expected impact. The proposals are to be submitted to institutions and each institution can recommend a total of 5 proposals for further evaluation.
2. Second Stage: Pragati Phase
After the first stage wherein proposals were submitted, around 25-50 top teams will be selected based on their proposal. All the selected teams will be given a fund worth Rs. 1,00,000 to develop their respective prototypes in 3 months (June 15 – September 15, 2025). Along with the fund, the participants will also receive mentorship, 5G Use Case Labs, and proper infrastructure to work.
3. Third Stage: Evaluation Stage
After the making of the prototypes, teams will be asked to present them to a Technical Expert Evaluation Committee (TEEC) comprised of 5-7 experts from the govt, academia, and industry. TEEC will base its decision on 4 major criteria:

TEEC will begin reviewing prototypes in late September 2025 and the final decision will be announced by October 2025. The winners will get the opportunity to present their innovation at the India Mobile Congress, one of the biggest tech events in the nation.
