Individuals interested in applying for this government scheme first need to ensure they fulfil the eligibility criteria. The eligibility criteria, as laid out in the Central Victim Compensation Scheme pdf are as follows:
Applicants must be a victim of a criminal activity or the dependents of the victim who suffered because of the criminal act.

All instances covered under the Motor Vehicles Act of 1988 are ineligible for this scheme as their compensation is sorted by the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal.
