According to the PIB fact check warning, scammers have been sending an India Post fake message primarily through online messaging applications like WhatsApp. The message claims a ₹20,000 subsidy claim that people can avail through a lucky draw. The message attempts to lure people through a link that leads to a fake webpage that requests people’s personal information, like Aadhaar card numbers, OTPs, etc.
Innumerable people reported having received the ₹20,000 subsidy claim fake message, and soon after, the PIB, which is the government’s fact-checking authority, verified and issued the PIB fact check warning saying that the message is completely fake and India Post has no connection to such an India Post lottery scam whatsoever.

In such a sensitive time where there are so many scams, like festival-time phishing messages or WhatsApp viral link warnings, it is better to be safe than sorry, and hence, the government issues scam alerts so that people can stay aware and protect themselves. Some of the prevention tips that one should know are as follows:
Please verify government scheme authenticity by checking their official website, contact information, etc.
Avoid clicking suspicious links that you receive through any messaging apps or even emails.
Please do remember that sharing bank/OTP info risk is one of the biggest mistakes that people make. Never share your bank details or OTPs through phone calls or messages to strangers or even your loved ones. Always verify the other person’s identity first as a preventive measure.
If you fall prey to any online fraud during festival season or any other season, immediately contact the reporting fake messages helpline or cyber crime division and file a formal complaint so that authorities can help you and catch the scammers before it’s too late.
We live in a smart and digital world, which is as dangerous and unsafe as the real world. On the occasion of Chhath Puja, many people have come across the India Post lottery scam, and many have fallen prey to it. We urge you to keep yourself educated and stay safe from such fraudulent activities.
