Scholarship schemes are those schemes that provide financial grants to selected students with excellent educational records. These govt schemes cover various related expenses such as course fees, living expenses, and expenses for materials like books, stationery, etc.
The government of India and respective state governments introduced scholarship schemes with just one objective and that is to help students pursue higher education and build their professional careers in their chosen fields. The schemes reduce the financial burden on the shoulders of the students and their families and spread a very strong message that education will never be caged or taken away from someone because of factors like finances.
The central and state governments of India have launched the top 10 govt scholarship schemes for students in Class Xth so that they can pursue higher education without any barriers. The top 10 govt scholarship schemes for students in class Xth are listed below in brief:
The CBSE Single Girl Child Scholarship was launched under the Ministry of Education for single girl children with exceptional academic records. As per the scholarship scheme, selected students under the scheme will be entitled to Rs. 500 per month for the next 2 years. Only those girls who are continuing their education after passing the Xth standard with an annual tuition fee of not more than Rs. 1500 can apply for the scheme by visiting the official website of CBSE.
The National Talent Search Exam (NTSE) is an examination conducted by NCERT to provide scholarships to deserving students in class Xth. The examination is conducted in 2 levels. i.e. state and national level and the selected students are entitled to receive Rs. 1250 monthly till they complete their education to the XIIth standard and Rs. 2000 monthly for pursuing education till graduation level or higher studies.
The Vidyadhan Scholarship is a scholarship opportunity provided by the Sarojini Damodaran Foundation. The scholarship scheme is designed for students pursuing graduation degrees from a recognised university or college. Selected students are provided with amounts ranging from Rs. 40,000 to Rs. 55,000 annually. Only students whose family’s annual income is less than Rs. 3,00,000 can apply for the scheme from their official website.
The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) Pragati Scholarship for Girls is a scholarship scheme that provides scholarships to girls for pursuing graduate degrees or diplomas from AICTE-approved institutes. Selected girls for the scholarship are entitled to receive a one-time fund of Rs. 50,000 each year of the tenure of their course and can apply through the official website.
The Indira Gandhi Single Girl Child Scholarship was launched by the Indian government to provide scholarships to single girl children who are pursuing full-time PG courses from recognised universities. Selected students receive Rs. 36200 annually till the tenure of their course is over. Interested candidates can apply through the official website of UGC.

The Indian Oil Academic Scholarship is offered by the Indian Oil Corporation of India for students pursuing formal education in fields like engineering, medicine, or management. Selected students are entitled to receive Rs. 3000 monthly for 4 years if they are pursuing studies in the fields of engineering or medicine or for 2 years if they are pursuing their studies in the field of management. Students pursuing their education in the above-mentioned courses and are enrolled in their first year can apply through the official website of the Indian Oil Corporation of India.
The PM Scholarship for Class Xth Students is a scholarship scheme that provides Rs. 25,000 to students who have completed their education till the Xth standard. The scheme is specifically for those students who come from low-income groups and are facing financial constraints.
The Indian National Mathematical Olympiad (INMO) is a famous maths competition for high school students organised by the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE). 30 students are selected to take part in the competition after passing a test and if they win the competition then they are entitled to receive several benefits like access to special training camps, scholarships, etc. Interested students can register for the INMO test only after participating in a Regional Mathematics Olympiad and finishing among the top 30 scores.
The Ishan Uday Scholarship under the University Grants Commission (UGC) helps meritorious students from the northeastern region and low-income groups to pursue higher education without any financial constraints. Scholarships worth Rs. 10,000 are provided to selected students annually. Students pursuing general degree courses are entitled to Rs. 5400 per month and students pursuing technical/medical/professional/paramedical courses are entitled to receive Rs. 7800 monthly. Interested students can apply from the official portal of NSP.
The Jagadish Chandra Bose Scholarship is a scholarship scheme launched by the state government of West Bengal for students in classes Xth and XIIth. The scholarship is divided into two categories: Junior Bigyani Kanya Medha Britti (JBNTS) for students who have cleared the Xth standard and Senior Bigyani Kanya Medha Britti (SBNTS) for students who have cleared the XIIth standard. Only female students who have chosen the field of science can apply for this scholarship and can apply through the official websites of the respective schemes. Selected students under JBNTS are entitled to receive Rs. 4000 monthly and Rs. 5000 under SBNTS.
