About

The Directorate of Tourism in Andaman & Nicobar is offering a new ‘Bed & Breakfast/Andaman & Nicobar Homestay Scheme’ throughout the islands. This state government scheme, based on national guidelines, aims to provide more places for tourists to stay. Instead of staying in hotels, tourists can live with Indian families. This allows visitors to experience how Indian families live and learn about local customs and traditions. Let’s understand in detail.

Benefits

Let’s take a look at the benefits of the Bed & Breakfast in Andaman, and what makes this state government scheme so effective and affordable, making travelling convenient.

  • The govt scheme will follow a bed-and-breakfast model, and charges will be set accordingly.

  • The type of breakfast offered must be specified, and the charges should be clearly shown.

  • Visitors need to be informed about the charges and breakfast options in advance to avoid disputes.

  • Once an establishment applies for classification or reclassification, it must be ready for inspection at any time.

  • Requests to delay inspections will not be accepted.

  • Classification is valid for three years from the date of the order or from the date the last classification expires if reclassified.

  • Applications must be submitted at least 3 months before the last classification expires.

  • The application fee for classification or reclassification is ₹1000 for Silver Star and ₹2000 for Gold Star.

  • The fee should be paid via demand draft to the Sr. Accounts Officer, Directorate of IP&T, Port Blair.

Eligibility Criteria

To apply for this state government travel scheme one must fulfil the following eligibility criteria, let us have a look at it carefully so you can fit into it.

This government scheme is available for establishments whose owner and his/her family are physically residing in the same establishment, and letting out a minimum of 1 room and a maximum of six rooms.

Fees

The application fees payable for the Bed & Breakfast Establishments and Homestay Establishments will be as follows:

Silver Star CategoryRs 3,000
Gold Star categoryRs 5,000

Application Process

The only eligibility criteria to meet is that the owner or promoter and their family must live in the same house. They can rent out at least one room and up to six rooms, with a maximum of 12 beds.

The following steps can be followed to apply for the Home Stay Establishment Scheme.

Step 1: The applicant must go to the Ministry of Tourism regional office or to the nearby state office to obtain the application form.

Step 2: Fill out the application form with the necessary details.

Step 3: Photocopies of the required documents must be attached to the application form when submitting it.

Step 4: The completed form and documents must be submitted to the concerned officer.

Step 5: Pay the fees mentioned to the officer. The application fee for a Silver Star Category is Rs. 3,000.and for a Gold Star Category, it is Rs. 5,000.

Step 6: The authority will check the application and documents. If everything is correct, the application will be accepted.

Step 7: The authority may ask for additional information if needed. The application will not move forward until this information is provided.

Step 8: The authority will conduct an onsite inspection related to the application.

Step 9: Once approved, the authority will issue the license.

Step 10: The entire process can be completed within 30 days or as advised by the department.
