Kasturba Gandhi Balika Yojana Kya Hai?

The Indian government launched a special scheme for girl children who come from the communities of Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs), Other Backwards Classes (OBCs), or other minority groups in the year 2004. KGBV full form is Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya Yojana. The primary aim of the scheme is to enable girls to access education and various skill-building programs for enhanced learning.

Objectives

KGBV embodies several objectives. Some of the major objectives of the Sarkari Yojana are laid down below:

• Under KGBV 2025, Kasturba residential schools are established in various parts of the country so that the enrollment rate of girls can increase and the gender gap can be reduced and eventually eliminated.

• Kasturba Gandhi Balika aims to reduce the dropout rates of girls from schools and encourage them to study further.

• Along with education, life skills and vocational training programs are also organised for the girls so that they can learn various things for a better future.

Coverage & Achievement Of The Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya Yojana

As of KGBV 2025, the scheme has covered around 75 districts across various parts of India and has covered over 3500 educationally backward blocks. According to an annual report by the Ministry of Education, more than 40 lakh girls are a part of the Kasturba Gandhi Balika. Along with quality education and skill development training programs, uniforms and study materials are also given to 50-100 girls in each Kasturba school for free.

• The Sarkari Yojana has improved the rates of enrollment of girls in schools; however, the dropout rate is the same, which is yet to be targeted by the scheme.
