Aadhaar was launched as an identification process and document by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) in September 2010. It went on to become one of the most important identification documents in India. Now, multiple services such as banking have been linked with Aadhaar to verify details and provide services to the consumers with ease.
Recently, the UIDAI has also issued multiple circulars clarifying that Aadhaar can not be used as a birth proof or citizenship proof and can only be used as an identification document. The particular information given by you in your Aadhaar card must be accurate and updated. In case you wish to change or update Aadhaar card online or Aadhaar address change online and are wondering how to do it, read this article to find the details.
An Aadhaar card contains various personal information of the holder. Most of it can be changed or updated by following the Aadhaar update process. Even after you get your Aadhaar card updated, the Aadhaar number, which is a unique number, remains the same. Let us look at what all information you can change or update in Aadhaar card!

It is pertinent to note that the Aadhaar card of a child must be updated at the age of 5 and 15 years respectively.
The Aadhaar card can be updated or changed in both offline and online mode. Let us look at the procedure for both these modes!
Visit the official UIDAI website.
Click on ‘My Aadhaar’ and then choose ‘Update Demographics Data and Check Status’ option under the ‘update My Aadhaar' column.
Click on the Login option on the next page and login using your Aadhaar card and entering the captcha. You will receive an OTP through your linked phone number or email address. Enter the OTP.
Click on the ‘Update Aadhaar’ option on the next page and choose ‘update Aadhaar online’.
Choose the relevant field and click on ‘proceed to update Aadhaar’.
Enter the updated information along with the required documents. Check if all information provided by you is accurate. Click the ‘submit’ button after reviewing all information.
An SRN number will be generated. Note this down at a safe spot to check aadhar update status using it later.
After approval, your Aadhaar details will get updated and you will receive your Aadhaar card through post at your address.
If the request to update Aadhaar card is rejected, you will have to apply again. A request can be rejected due to possible procedural errors, inaccurate information or missing documents.
You can update your Aadhaar card details in an offline mode through enrolment centres, seva kendras or other Aadhaar facilitation centres. The procedure is given below:
Visit your nearest enrolment centre.
Fill the Aadhaar correction form/Aadhaar update form and attach the required documents along with it.
The operator will collect your biometric information and send the request for approval. You shall get an acknowledgement receipt with SRN that can be used to track the status of your application.
The charges vary depending on the information that needs to be changed. The details are given below:

Biometric update | Free if done once between the age of 15 years to 17 years. Otherwise, you will have to pay Rs. 100. |
Demographic update | Rs. 50 |
Document update | Free if done in an online mode. Otherwise, Rs. 50 if done through enrolment centre. |

Identity Proof - Voter ID/ Passport/ PAN Card/Driving Licence, etc.
Relationship Proof - Pension Card/ MNREGA Job Card/ Passport/PDS Card, etc.
Date of Birth Proof - Birth certificate/SSLC certificate/passport/PAN card, etc.
Address Proof - Ration Card/ ST/ SC/ OBC Certificate issued by Central Govt./ State Govt/ Bank Passbook or Statement/ Voter ID/ Insurance Policy etc.
