Amidst the digital and environment-friendly era, where priorities have shifted from keeping a written hard copy to avoiding the use of paper, we have traveled a long path of awareness. The government of India has taken an initiative in the same direction by introducing DigiLocker, a flagship initiative of the Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY) under the Digital India Programme.
What Is DigiLocker?
DigiLocker, as the name suggests, is a safe and secure locker for all the significant documents one might have. DigiLocker aims to digitally empower the citizens of India by providing ease, protection, and reliability regarding all their necessary documents. The documents stored in DigiLocker are deemed to be as credible as the original physical documents according to Rule 9A of the IT (Information by Intermediaries Providing Digital Locker Facilities) Rules, 2016.
Steps To Create A DigiLocker Account
The process of creating a DigiLocker account is simple, easy, and convenient.
A one-time password (OTP) would be sent to the registered mobile number.
As the OTP is verified, it would require a username and password.
After setting up the username and password, one has to link their Aadhar card by entering the number on the card and verifying it using the OTP sent again to the registered mobile number.
The DigiLocker account is created and can be used immediately.
How To Link An Aadhaar Card With DigiLocker?
It is imperative to link one’s Aadhar card with the DigiLocker account, as it helps in accessing all government-issued documents easily and quickly. One can do so by:
Open the DigiLocker account through their website or application, and log in to your respective account.
There is an option called ‘Link Aadhar’ on the dashboard.
After clicking on it, one needs to provide the 12-digit Aadhar number mentioned on the card.
An OTP will be sent to the registered number with the Aadhar. Fill out the OTP and click submit.
After carrying out all the required steps mentioned above and filling out the correct details, the Aadhar card will be linked to the respective DigiLocker account.
