Soldiers are one of those few people who sacrifice major chunks of their lives to protect their larger homes. i.e. the country. However, sometimes during their service, they suffer some major injuries and impairments, like hearing impairment, which impacts both their personal and professional lives.
The Union Territory of Puducherry recognises the value of soldiers and understands how painful it is to manage hearing impairment and hence launched the Hearing Aid Grant under the Department of Sainik Welfare. It is a welfare scheme that provides financial support to servicemen with hearing impairment. The Hearing Aid Grant Scheme was introduced by the Union Territory of Puducherry on the occasion of the Armed Forces Flag Day under the Department of Sainik Welfare. The welfare scheme was launched to provide financial assistance to ex-servicemen with hearing impairment.
The primary aim of the govt scheme is to make the lives of ex-servicemen who are suffering innumerable challenges due to their hearing impairment a little easier. The financial assistance is provided so that they can purchase quality hearing aids and lead as normal life as possible.

Quality hearing aids: With the help of the Hearing Aid Grant Scheme, ex-servicemen can purchase quality hearing aids and lead a close-to-normal life.
Financial aid: The welfare scheme provides Rs. 8000 to ex-servicemen with hearing impairment so that they can purchase hearing aids without any financial worry.

Interested applicants first need to ensure whether they fit into the eligibility criteria of the Hearing Aid Grant Scheme or not. The eligibility criteria are as follows:
Applicants should be an ex-serviceman or the widow of an ex-serviceman.
Applicants should be registered with the Department of Sainik Welfare, Puducherry.
There is a set of exclusion criteria for the Hearing Aid Grant Scheme, which specifies conditions under which people cannot apply for the State government scheme. The exclusion criteria are:
