November 11th is a very special day as it is the birth anniversary of the late Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, the former president, and scientist who contributed significantly toward the nation’s growth and development. India celebrates this day as National Education Day to honour his work and presence.
Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam cherished children and hence the government of India launched several new government schemes in the education sector to improve the sector’s working for the wholesome growth and development of children.

The PM Vidyalaxmi Scheme is govt scheme that renders financial support in the form of loans to students from economically weaker sections of society to pursue UG, PG, or other professional courses. The rate of interest on the given educational loan is very minimal or zero. The government has granted 3600 crore to the scheme so that it can help around 30 lakh students.
The ULLAS Scheme also known as the Nav Bharat Saaksharta Karyakram (New India Literacy Programme) aims to promote literacy in people above the age of 15 years. The government scheme comprises imbibing basic education, life-related skills like financial and health literacy, and vocational skills. It encourages them to pursue whichever field they might be interested in pursuing a career.
The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) was launched in 2015 to build a ranking system for universities and colleges so that students can make mindful decisions when it comes to choosing an institute for further education. NIRF rankings are extremely rigorous and systematised and check every aspect that an ideal institute should have.
The NISHTHA (National Initiative for School Heads and Teachers Holistic Achievement) scheme was launched to train millions of teachers to teach students using the latest techniques and keep up with the times. This helps the government in working as per the goals set under the New Education Policy 2020.
The PRERNA scheme is a very different scheme that organises a residential program for students from 9th to 12th standard. The program lasts for a week and aims to combine both practical and theoretical knowledge with the help of updated technology.
Prime Minister’s Schools for Rising India (PM Shri) is a government initiative that aims to equip schools with all the upcoming and updated technology and work as per the vision of the New Education Policy-2020. The govt scheme aims to incorporate all digital measures in the process of learning.
The Vidya Pravesh scheme is an initiative under the New Education Policy-2020 framework designed specifically for children in preschool. The preschool preparation program includes 3 months of play-based interactive learning which helps children in the transition from preschool to school.
SWAYAM (Study Webs of Active Learning for Young Aspiring Minds) Plus is an extended version of the SWAYAM platform. SWAYAM Plus comprises numerous courses in regional languages. SWAYAM Plus also has a credit recognition system for courses that students can complete and accumulate credits.
The Vidyanjali scheme aims to improve educational institutions by allowing people and organisations to contribute in whichever way they can.
The NIPUN (National Initiative for Proficiency in Reading with Understanding and Numeracy) Bharat is a government initiative dedicated to achieving foundational literacy and numeracy in children by the time they pass the 3rd standard. After all, reading, writing, and basic calculation are the basis of everything that one learns later.
DIKSHA (Digital Infrastructure for Knowledge Sharing) is a govt scheme that focuses on providing digital tools and resources to teachers from all corners of the nation so that they can teach their students as effectively as possible.
The Samagra Shiksha Scheme was launched in 2021 and will end in 2026. It aims to deliver quality education to students from all parts of the nation by delivering necessary resources, training of teachers, and development of infrastructure.
