What Is The Reason Behind The Extension Date?

The Central Board of Direct Taxes has also announced the reason for extending the filing date for ITR. At the beginning of this year, there were some major and minor changes introduced in various components of the domain of tax, including in the process of filing ITR, like a specific software.

The Chartered Accountants’ (CAs) filed various complaints about the govt not enabling the software needed for ITR filings. And hence, the CBDT extended the deadline for ITR filings for FY 2024-25. CBDT also reported that the new additions in the system require some extra time to ensure smooth functioning as it gets enabled among the public.

Impact Of Extended Deadline On Salaried Employees

The old date of ITR filing. i.e. 31st July 2025 was for most of the general categories of taxpayers, including salaried employees and those taxpayers who are not required to get their accounts audited. All these individuals now have 46 extra days to file their respective Income Tax Returns. Please follow the deadlines and avoid penalties, which go up to Rs. 5000.

Conclusion

The Central Board of Direct Taxes has extended the deadline for filing ITR for FY 2024-25 from July 31st, 2025, to September 15th, 2025. This extension is in response to people’s pleas about the software systems not being enabled for the same. We request that you stay updated about related notifications and follow the deadlines to avoid unnecessary penalties.
