What does an international driving permit agent do?

An international driving permit agent prepares your IDP application, checks your licence, passport and visa, and guides you through the RTO's process. Jaagruk Bharat does this online for applicants across India. The agent cannot issue the permit; only the RTO where you live can.

Who issues the International Driving Permit in India?

The RTO, as the licensing authority, issues it, and Parivahan's IDP service sends the application to the RTO for your place of residence. Confirm your RTO with us before you apply. The Central Motor Vehicles Rules prescribe Form 4A for the application. No private company, including Jaagruk Bharat, can issue an IDP.

Who can apply for an IDP through an international driving permit agent?

You need a valid Indian driving licence and must be a resident of India, as state transport departments state. You will also need a valid passport and, where your destination requires one, a visa. Delhi lists a copy of your valid driving licence among the documents, so get your permanent licence first if you hold only a learner's.

What documents does an international driving permit agent need from me?

Delhi's transport department lists Form 4A, a copy of your valid driving licence, a medical certificate in Form 1A, proof of passport, proof of visa where applicable, recent passport-size photos and the fee. Other states ask for much the same; we confirm your RTO's list.

How long is an International Driving Permit valid?

An IDP is valid for one year, as Delhi's transport department states. It does not replace your Indian licence, so carry both when you drive abroad. If you will stay longer, check the local rules of the country you are moving to.

What is the government fee for an IDP in India?

The government fee is ₹1,000, set under Rule 32 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, as listed by Delhi's transport department. Some states add user charges. Our assistance fee is separate, and you see both amounts before you pay.

Do I have to visit the RTO even if I use an international driving permit agent?

It depends on your state. Some ask you to book a slot and attend the RTO to submit documents or collect the permit. An agent cannot attend in your place. We guide you through the RTO booking from your own login and tell you exactly what to bring.

Is an international driving licence bought online the same as an IDP?

No. The IDP that Indian licence holders get is issued by their RTO under the motor vehicle rules. Documents sold online as an instant international driving licence are not that permit. If a site promises one in minutes without your RTO, treat it with caution.
