On Monday, Union Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya launched the upgraded E-Shram: One-Stop Solution website for social security benefits for unorganised workers in an attempt to connect them and avail them of various social security schemes. It will engage over 300 million people at their workplaces and offer benefits such as health insurance, pension, and food security.

Union Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya answered the rationale behind the government upgrading the E-Shram Portal amidst formally launching the platform in mid-October. The integration of E-Shram was upgraded to ease the process of availing the government schemes for the unorganised sector workers. Currently between 60,000 to 90,000 new workers are signing up with the portal which is an attestation to people’s faith in this service as the go-between of job seekers and government assistance.
The one-stop solution to be implemented has the goal of combining and merging information from different ministries and departments to provide a centralised platform. This integration assists in ensuring that all potential beneficiary sets, including the unconnected ones, are identified to be in the welfare schemes. To date, about ten central schemes have been linked successfully with the E-Shram database.
Some of the important social security schemes now can be availed through the newly revamped E-Shram portal. The following table includes
Scheme | Description |
---|---|

Since the launch of the E-Shram portal, during the Union Budget of July 2024, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has stated the platform will be connected with several other related services concerning employment and skill building. Offering a one-stop solution for the welfare of the labour force is the main intention of this expansion.
The E-Shram portal is now integrated with the UMANG App (Unified Mobile Application for New Age Governance), available on both the Google Play Store and App Store. This means the unorganised workers can register themselves and avail of benefits easily. From the app, the workers can view their registration details, access different schemes and be informed on added new benefits on the application. This is a mobile-responsive utility which makes it possible to work on an E-Shram account more effectively and conveniently from a handset.

The new E-Shram Portal is a welcome improvement that allows unorganised workers to have a simplified gateway to access key government programmes. When several government schemes have been centralised and clustered under one category of online registration, the employed can easily enrol for health, pension and further employment assistance. The welfare portal is like a lamp for the millions of unorganised workers in India.
