India is on the path of becoming a developed nation from a developing nation, and to do the same, it is required to cross and achieve various milestones, and one of those milestones is shifting its working from a traditional paper-based approach to a modern digitised approach. However, the government of India cannot cross this milestone unless and until the people of India welcome and embrace technology in their lives, which led to the birth of the E-Kranti initiative.
E-Kranti was launched under the National e-Government Program (NEGP) to promote and encourage the use of technological measures instead of traditional measures. The govt initiative aims to improve both the government's working and the citizens' lives.

The government of India launched the E-Kranti initiative as a part of the Digital India Mission under the National e-Government Program (NEGP) in the year of 2015. The govt initiative aims to smooth the transition of the nation from traditional paper-based approaches to modern digitised approaches to working.
The E-Kranti initiative aims to improve the functioning of government offices so that people can use various services or exercise their rights as efficiently as possible. The program was designed so that people can have a digital gateway to access public services from the comfort of their homes without any issues or hassles.
The govt program has several features that outline its goals and objectives. Some of the major features of the digital mission are mentioned below:
A shift: The govt initiative aims to shift the nation’s focus from traditional approaches to modern digitised approaches in as many sectors as possible.
Digital India: The E-Kranti initiative works hand-in-hand with the Digital India Mission as they both share the same aim. i.e. to make the nation a digital land.
Online services: The government aims to provide its various services to the people through online platforms like websites, applications, etc.
Security measures: The govt recognises the significance of protecting people’s data and hence has made sure that various necessary protective layers are placed in all the systems.
Regular updates: Flexibility is the key to development, and that is why the E-Kranti initiative has a flexible foundation open to change with the changing times.
There are several key principles of E-Kranti according to which the govt initiative works for the betterment of both, the authorities and the citizens of the nation. All of its principles are mentioned below in detail:
Change for the better: E-Kranti ensures that all the projects under it go through a rigorous quality and quantity check so that there are no loopholes in the services it delivers.
Unified platforms: The government initiative aims to create unified platforms such as e-Seva, launched by the state govt of Andhra Pradesh, a single nationwide approved identity document, and other such innovations, so that enhanced efficiency in the working of public services can be achieved.
Simplified application processes: E-Kranti mission simplifies the application processes of various government schemes and programs so that people from all backgrounds can apply for the same as per the eligibility criteria without the need for any external guidance or help.
Shared technology: The govt mission proposes to create technologies that departments can share among themselves and focus on delivering quality services rather than wasting precious time in creating their own software. To ensure the same, the Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY) launched an initiative called the National Information Infrastructure, an IT structure that various govt departments can use and focus on the delivery of quality services, something that requires their attention and effort.
Meghraj Cloud Initiative: One of the most important components of the digital world is storing data, and hence, the National Cloud Computing Initiative introduced Meghraj for storing enormous amounts of data in a secure, cost-effective platform. In addition, an eGov application has also been launched so that people can access various govt services in one place.
Mobile Seva Project: E-Kranti mission runs with the Mobile Seva Project under which citizens can access services from their mobile phones only. This doesn’t put any extra financial burden on people associated with other gadgets like computers or tablets.
Quick approvals: The govt initiative aims to reduce and eventually eradicate longer approval delays by establishing an Empowered Committee, which would handle all project-related decisions as soon as an organisation’s Detailed Project Report (DPR) gets approved.
National Geographic Information System (National GIS): Under E-Kranti, the National GIS would be responsible for tracking the progress of various infrastructural projects so that there are no unnecessary delays or quality compromises.
E-Kranti mission focuses on many significant areas that make up the whole economy of a country. Some of the major sectors under its focus are mentioned below in detail for one’s better understanding and reference:
Pradhan Mantri Gramin Digital Saksharta Abhiyaan (PMGDISHA): For spreading digital literacy to people residing in rural areas.
SWAYAM: A digital platform that is home to various online courses for students from the 9th standard to post-graduation.
Healthcare: E-Kranti aims to digitise the healthcare industry as well by setting up platforms for online medical consultations, digital medical records, online delivery of medicines, and a single database accessible by all approved healthcare establishments.
Supporting farmers: The government's mission would provide its support to farmers by allowing them access to various current and accurate information, like market prices of various crops, seeds, fertilisers, and loan facilities of loans.
Financial support: Various services like mobile banking, micro ATMs, and schemes accessible through post offices or financial institutions would be provided as ways of monetary support under the E-Kranti mission.
Criminal Justice System: The govt initiative would work on digitising the existing components of the Criminal Justice System to improve the system’s working and deliver justice quickly but correctly.
