The government has announced the setting up of the Cyber Fraud Mitigation Centre or CMFC to help major banks, financial intermediaries, payment aggregators, telecom/IT service providers, and law enforcement agencies come together and report financial crimes or cyber frauds easily and enable quick action.
“CFMC will serve as an example of ‘cooperative federalism’ in law enforcement,” read a statement issued by the Home Ministry. The centre aims to save people’s money by reporting and acting against financial frauds that often occur in the form of cyber fraud these days.
CFMC will act as a repository of crime, data mapping, data sharing, cooperation, and coordination amongst the law enforcement agencies of the country.
The Home Minister also launched the Samanavya platform which is a joint cybercrime investigation facilitation system. The Samanavya platform is a part of the CFMC initiative and will be the platform to facilitate the activities and undertaking of CFMC.
This cybercrime initiative aims to train ‘cyber commandos’ across all states and UTs in India to safeguard the country’s digital space. This way, the cyber commandos will be able to detect and even resolve threats.
The cyber commandos will also help and assist other law enforcement agencies in their operations.
A suspect registry of identifiers is set to be created in collaboration with the National Cybercrime Reporting Bureau. This is aimed to combat financial fraud and help save the money of people. It will also strengthen the fraud risk ecosystem.
