What Is The MSME Sustainable (ZED) Certification Scheme?

The ZED Certification Scheme ensures the sustainability of MSME businesses by integrating practices of the Zero Defect Zero Effect (ZED) philosophy which not only ensures a focus on quality production, design, and processes but also minimises the impact on the environment.

In embracing ZED practices, MSMEs enhance their competitiveness, gain access to benefits and incentives, and are on par with a global threshold of sustainable practices.

The startup scheme aims to promote the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to embrace a certain level of sustainability and efficiency through a well-defined certification process. It does this by providing stimuli and rewards to increase the levels of quality and environmental compliance in all sectors. The main features of the government scheme are as follows:

  • Three Levels of Certification: These are Bronze, Silver and Gold with increasing levels of quality and environmental compliance.

  • Graded Ideals: These are prequalifications for certification whereby costs for certification and financial assistance for process alteration and technological advancement are offered.

  • Acknowledgement: MSMEs which adopt ZED practices are recognised through the issuance of certificates and public outreach campaigns.

The main aim of the government scheme is to encourage MSMEs to adopt sustainable manufacturing processes which will not lead to the compromise of quality over the environment. The government program also seeks to enhance the export potential and global competitiveness of the country by creating a holistic ZED (Zero Effect Zero Defect) ecosystem. Its specific goals include the following:

  • Encourage the production of high-quality goods at MSMEs while ensuring minimum adverse impact on the environment.

  • Go for a robust ZED manufacturing ecosystem to enhance exports and competitiveness.

  • Help the government in the formulation of policies and prioritisation of investment for sustainable growth.

Benefits

This government scheme offers several incentives to persuade MSMEs to ZED (Zero Effect Zero Defect) practices which makes sustainable manufacturing not just possible but economically viable as well. From offering financial assistance to further providing benefits for special categories, the aim is to promote all-encompassing growth.

  • Certification Subsidies: 80 % Micro, 60% Small, and 50% Medium Enterprises.

  • Financial Support: A fund of up to Rs. 3 lakhs is provided for technology upgradation and Rs. 50,000 for testing and product certifications.

  • Consultancy Aid: Funds of up to Rs. 2 lakhs for ZED-certified enterprises are provided to assist the enterprise in overhauling its operational processes.

  • Additional Subsidies: 10 % for MSMEs falling under special categories such as SC/ST/Women or based in aspirational districts.

Eligibility Criteria For ZED Certification Scheme

Very specific eligibility criteria are set to make access to the Sarkari scheme equitable. Documents Required

For the registration and certification process to go smoothly, applicants must provide more than one document that proves their MSME status and which has contact details. These documents are important for verification and correspondence during the life of the government scheme. The required documents include

  • Udyam registration number of the enterprise

  • The mobile number associated with that enterprise.

  • Valid email ID such that the username and other credentials can be sent to that email.
