One of our fundamental needs and rights is timely and smooth access to premium healthcare services at fully-equipped and modernised hospitals. And this is usually easier when one invests in health insurance policies. However, investing in health insurance policies is very difficult for individuals and families who come from economically disadvantaged sections of society.
To resolve this financial constraint and provide people with their basic right to access premium healthcare services irrespective of their economic backgrounds, the central and state governments have introduced several health insurance schemes and one of those is the infamous Ayushman Bharat Yojana.
In the recent state elections of Delhi, the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) won with the maximum votes and one of their early decisions was to implement the Ayushman Bharat Yojana. The health insurance scheme has proven itself to be one of the most result-yielding schemes.
Read the news article to know more about the scheme and a guide to registering and applying for the health insurance scheme.
The Ayushman Bharat Yojana also known as the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) is one of the largest health insurance schemes which would now work in the state of Delhi as well. Eligible beneficiaries would get insurance coverage of Rs. 10 lakh wherein one-half of the amount will be contributed by the state govt of Delhi and the second half by the central government.
The scheme would operate through two major components. Those two components are mentioned below in brief:
The state govt is planning to establish around 1.5 lakh Health and Wellness Centres (HWCs). Through HWCs, people would be able to access primary healthcare services like medications, diagnostics, and health check-ups.
PMJAY will cover the secondary and tertiary hospital-related expenses.
People above the age of 70 can also apply for the government scheme through the Ayushman Vaya Vandana card. The expanded criteria would help many senior citizens access medical aid as and when needed.
The Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana will benefit eligible individuals and their families in several ways. Some of the major benefits of the govt scheme are:
Ayushman Bharat in Delhi would provide an additional coverage of Rs. 5 lakh to all the registered applicants which makes the total amount of insurance coverage Rs. 10 lakh.
Under the scheme, each registered individual would be given a health insurance coverage of Rs. 10 lakh which is double the original, the first half of the amount (Rs. 5 lakh) will be contributed by the state govt of Delhi, and the second half (Rs. 5 lakh) by the central government.
People from low-income family groups, senior citizens, and the residents of Delhi, would finally be able to reap the benefits of this health insurance scheme.
Eligible and interested individuals can apply for the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana by following some simple steps laid down below for one’s better understanding and reference:
