The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has come up with a new initiative where opportunities are being provided for women looking to work after taking a long career break. This programme is called the Returnity Programme.
This initiative helps support women who’ve taken a long hiatus from the professional field and helps ensure a smooth transition back into a working career as well.
The job opportunities provided are mostly in middle management.
The candidates must have at least 5 to 7 years of experience.
They are aimed at women who’ve taken a break from working for 2 to 5 years due to maternity, personal issues, and so on.

Women who want to start working again after a hiatus often have to deal with various issues. These include technical advancements, getting rejected due to the career gap, financial strain, and a lack of training.
Women with kids also find it hard to manage their careers as well as taking care of their children, and so on. This is what the NPCI wants to help fight for the women to help them gain their confidence back and also get to resume their careers.
The initiative is prompted by a bid to improve the representation of women, widen the company’s talent pool, and reduce hiring time to fill positions faster with experienced professionals, said Nishith Chaturvedi, chief of human resources and administration at NPCI.

The candidates will be under the guidance of a mentor who’ll help ease a seamless and efficient transition.
They will also have external industry experts and internal mentors who will guide these women.
They will also have a training period, which will help them adapt to the changes over the years.
This initiative is part of the NPCI’s strive towards growing gender diversity in workplaces. They are also planning to increase their gender diversity ratio from 29% to around 35% in the next year.

If shortlisted, the next step is to prepare for interviews, and if you’re a viable candidate, then you will be recruited under their new programme.
Nishith Chaturvedi also said that the lateral hiring process is time-consuming and requires a significant investment. A candidate will have to wait for around 5–6 months after applying.
As the selection process is very lengthy, even after a candidate is chosen, there is no guarantee that they will join the organisation. This poses a threat to the organisation as the position might be vacant for a long time if the candidate decides not to join at the last moment.
Upon selection, one will embark on a 6-month paid internship in a hybrid, work-from-office model at the Mumbai Goregaon office. After completing the internship, one may be considered for a full-time employment opportunity.
This not only gives the women who want to get back to their professional lives a push but also empowers other women who didn’t think they could get back to their work after a long time.
