A recent survey by the NSS has brought out that almost 24 per cent of rural masses and 29 percent of urban masses are poverty-ridden, the majority of them being women as they have no means to be self-sufficient.
To push forward and promote financial independence among women in Maharashtra, the state government introduced a scheme for women specially. The Government has made changes and amendments to key criteria in the Ladki Bahin Scheme is a women welfare scheme which provides monthly financial aid to the women of Maharashtra who have no other means of livelihood, helping them be financially independent.
These changes have been made so that the age limit of the applicable women can be raised to 65 years while at the same time, the agriculture land ownership clause has been removed.

The condition of non-ownership of agricultural land by the family is removed.
Aims to cover more women who lack necessities and means of livelihood.
These new amendments will help in
Allowing older women to continue receiving much-needed aid to support their livelihoods, as they have no support from elsewhere.
The removal of the land clause guarantees aid is given on a financial circumstance and nothing else.
Removing the land clause eliminates the need for women to own small plots for their accommodation and residence.
The removal of the land conditions in the new amendment by the CM of Maharashtra helps in the following ways:
More women in need will be eligible for assistance under this scheme as previously women were considered ineligible even if their family-owned even small lands for bare minimum residential purposes.
The removal of this clause ensures economic and financial aid is provided based just on the individual's circumstance, irrespective of their family.
Before the amendment, it prevented applicants in need from availing the benefits of the scheme, making their conditions worse which was why changes were made.
The new amendment promotes the inclusion of various women all over Maharashtra to avail and make use of this scheme, especially women belonging to rural Maharashtra.
