The Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Yojana (PMSGY) was launched on January 22, 2024 to achieve the solar energy goals under the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals as well as the National Solar Mission.

To install 1 crore rooftop solar systems (RTS) in the residential sector.

To create an integrated regulatory framework and enabling ecosystem for manufacturers, vendors and supply chain.

To facilitate and fasten India’s commitment for a green climate at UNFCCC.
What Are The Benefits Of The New Guidelines For PM Surya Ghar Yojana?

The consumers can opt for Building Integrated Photo-Voltaic (BIPV)s in case of lack of rooftop space.

Panels can now also be installed in balconies, terrace, o top of elevated structures.

BIPVs and other forms of solar installations as highlighted above will also be covered under Central Financial Assistance (CFA) under this scheme.

CFA will also be provided to grid-connected rooftop solar projects.

An option for virtual net metering and group net metering has also been provided under the guidelines.
