Ensuring Farmers' Welfare: Kera Suraksha Insurance Scheme

The Kera Suraksha Insurance Scheme is a comprehensive Group Personal Accident Insurance Scheme designed to provide extensive coverage and support to those working in the coconut industry. This govt scheme is implemented by the Coconut Development Board, which operates under the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India. It is conducted in collaboration with Public Insurance companies to ensure the safety and welfare of individuals in high-risk coconut cultivation jobs.

Understanding The Kera Suraksha Insurance Scheme

The Kera Suraksha Insurance Scheme is a group insurance scheme introduced to address the shortage of coconut tree climbers. This Kera Suraksha Insurance Scheme 2024 also aims to attract unemployed youth to start working in the agriculture sector under the Coconut Development Board launched a skill development program called 'Friends of Coconut Tree' (FoCT).

The Coconut Development Board schemes aim to engage the unemployed youth by providing specialised training in coconut tree climbing using a machine specifically made for this purpose. This govt scheme also covers scientific management of palm trees, plant protection techniques, and other activities. 

The Coconut Development Board schemes also aim to equip interested youths with these skills to create more job opportunities in agriculture and ensure a steady supply of skilled coconut tree climbers.

What Is The Eligibility Criteria Of The Kera Suraksha Insurance Scheme?

People who meet the below-mentioned criteria can apply for this govt scheme. The kera suraksha insurance scheme eligibility criteria are.

  • Must be a coconut tree climber, neera technician, coconut harvester, or trainee.

  • Applicants should be between the ages of 18 and 65 years.

What Are The Responsibilities Of The Beneficiaries?

Beneficiaries will have the following responsibilities to follow.

  • Submit the insurance applications in the mentioned format with all the required documents.

  • Pay the share of the premium set via demand draft or online mode.

  • Keep the policy number or policy document safe.

  • Notify the accident within 72 hours of the incident.

  • Submit the claim form in case of any accident-related hospital expenses or death.

The beneficiary has to pay a premium of Rs. 94, and the Board will put in a share of Rs. 281 which is a total of Rs. 375 in a year. The beneficiary can make the payment online or through a demand draft.

How To Apply For Claim Of Insurance Under Kera Suraksha Insurance Scheme?

Applicants wanting to claim their insurance can follow the following steps.

  • Write a letter to

  • Submit all claim-related documents along with the letter.

Documents Required To Be Submitted

To apply for the scheme, the following documents have to be submitted.

  • Aadhaar card.

  • Proof of age.

  • Caste certificate, if applicable.

  • Declaration for Assignment.

  • Declaration Form.

  • Certificate issued by competent authority stating that the applicant is currently engaged in skilled labour as a Coconut Tree Climber/Neera Technician/Harvester.

  • Payment details.

  • Any other required document.

The following documents have to be submitted in case of an accident.

  • Original Discharge summary/ OP Ticket.

  • Original Medical Bills (certified by a doctor).

  • Original Lab reports.

  • Immobilisation certificate (Minimum 5 days continuous disablement is required).

  • Fitness Certificate.

  • Disability Certificate (In case of disablement due to accident).

  • FIR/GD Entry/CSR/Police Report (In case of road accident).

  • Bank details (Bank name, Branch, Account Number and IFSC).

  • Duly signed claim voucher. 

The following documents have to be submitted in case of death.

  • Original Medical Reports.

  • Original Death Certificate.

  • Legal Heirship certificate.

  • Post Mortem Report.

  • FIR.

  • Viscera Report.

  • Inquest Report.

  • Bank details (Bank name, Branch, Account Number and IFSC).

  • Duly signed claim voucher.
