ITR Form 16 has two sections, each with different roles to play in terms of taxation documentation and verification:
Part A serves as a record of the tax deducted by your employer and deposited with the government. It contains details such as your employer's TAN, your PAN number, the amount deducted as taxes quarterly, and corresponding challan numbers.
Part B provides more detailed information, including gross salary, exemptions, and deductions under various sections like 80C, 80D, etc., to calculate net taxable income.
Look for the TRACES Form 16 logo on both parts of the document, thus authenticating its validity. Additionally, it should bear a valid digital signature which can be verified electronically, ensuring its authenticity.

Inspect each entry in TRACES Form 16 meticulously, mainly personal details such as PAN and employer’s information, salary breakup, and TDS. Matching these details with your records is crucial for a seamless taxation process.
You can access the form through the IT department’s e-filing portal, which shows a consolidated statement of all TDS applied to income. By cross-verifying TDS entries mentioned in the form against those mentioned in Form 26AS helps you identify any inconsistencies possibly affecting your computation of tax liabilities.
If there are any disparities between TDS details in Form No. 16 and Form No. 26AS, contact your employer’s HR or finance department immediately because they need to file rectified returns followed by the issuance of a new Form 16.
Form 16 should be obtained from each employer if one changed jobs during the previous fiscal year. Each of these documents will have earnings and tax statements specifically for the duration you worked with the respective employer.
