The Scheme of Awarding Porkizhi to the Indigent Kalaimamani Awardee Artists is a welfare initiative launched by the state government of Tamil Nadu and conferred by the Tamil Nadu Eyal Isai Nataka Manram. The scheme is specifically designed for elderly artists who have been awarded the Kalaimamani award in various art forms across various areas, like literature, music, dance, theatre, and folk arts, but are living in poor conditions. Through this scheme, awardees are entitled to receive a one-time financial assistance.
The financial assistance is not given to the artists as a form of monetary relief, but as a cash incentive that they deserve to receive for all that they contribute to society. Through the scheme, the authorities not only aim to honour the contributions of the artists and help them in improving their living conditions but also preserve cultural legacies.
There are several objectives of this Indigent artists scheme Tamil Nadu that make it unique and beneficial, some of which are described below:
The primary objective of the state government scheme for artists is to provide a cash incentive to artists who have already been awarded the prestigious Kalaimamani award but are facing economic hardships. The cash incentive is intended to help them improve their living conditions so they can create new art pieces without financial worries.
Another one of the objectives of the Tamil Nadu Sarkari Yojana is to preserve and promote cultural heritage indirectly by helping out elderly artists who have been contributing to the state’s aesthetics for years. Helping seasoned artists will also benefit young artists, as they can be mentored by veterans to preserve the state's and India's cultural heritage.
The Sarkari Yojana comes along with numerous benefits. Some of the key Kalaimamani award benefits are laid out below in brief points:
The main popular benefit of this scheme is the Kalaimamani Awardee financial assistance, which is around Rs 15,000. The cash incentive is supposed to help them improve their quality of life by getting their essential needs sorted, like healthcare, debt payoff, other living expenses, etc.
As the scheme is strictly restricted to old artists living in poor conditions, the state government authorities aim to help those who are in desperate need of help. This financial help will not only take up some of their troubles away but will also boost their morale and encourage them to create new creations in their chosen art forms.
One of the Kalaimamani award benefits is strengthening the art community of the state of Tamil Nadu, as they are the main reason why the state looks magnificent with cultural pieces, and therefore, it is the state’s responsibility to take care of the artists and their work and create a growing environment for them where they can work without much financial worries.
