There are certain things that one should know about the recent announcement made by the Ministry of Finance. All those points are laid down below in brief for one’s reference:
Retirees of the National Pension Scheme will have the option of choosing between a one-time payout equal to one-tenth of their last drawn Basic Pay plus Dearness Allowance (DA) for 6 months of service, or a monthly top-up if their present NPS pension is less than the UPS entitlement plus Dearness Relief (DR).
Dues will be cleared with simple interest, based on applicable Public Provident Fund (PPF) rates.
NPS retirees will be able to apply through both online and offline platforms at their ease and convenience. If the retiree chooses the offline method of application, they would be required to visit the Drawing and Disbursing Officer (DDO).
Retirees of the National Pension Scheme are required to apply before 30th July, 2025, to reap the benefits of the Unified Pension Scheme.
The Finance Ministry’s decision to widen the scope of both the National Pension Scheme and the Unified Pension Scheme will prove to be very beneficial for the central government employees and pensioners.
