The project of the Financial Assistance for Setting Up Crab Culture Unit came into existence with the Department of Fisheries, Government of Goa, which also looks forward to promoting sustainable aquaculture through crab farming in the state. Under this govt scheme, fish farmers, individuals, registered Self Help Groups (SHGs), and societies wishing to set up units for crab culture are provided further financial assistance. The Setting Up of the Crab Culture Unit scheme envisages the main objective of providing financial assistance to crab culture unit farmers and entrepreneurs in the state of Goa only.
The government scheme also targets improving the inputs used and profits earned from aquaculture endeavours in the state. In crab culture support, the government wants to generate additional employment, raise the standard of living of communities, and strengthen the prudent practice of coastal resources.

Financial Assistance for Setting Up Crab Culture Unit: The scheme gives 25% of the expenditure incurred on establishing crab culture operations subject to a maximum of ₹1,50,000 for each hectare. This assistance can be availed for up to two hectares of land which is quite helpful for individuals interested in beginning crab farming.
Purchase of Seed and Feed: Besides the establishment of the crab culture unit, the scheme allows the farmers to receive 50% of the actual cost incurred in the purchase of seeds and feed, with a constraint of 75,000 per hectare. This support is also available for up to two hectares so that the required means for crab farming are reasonable and readily available.

To qualify for the Setting Up of the Crab Culture Unit scheme, applicants have to meet the following guidelines:
The applicant must be a registered fish farmer or an individual or Self Help Group/Society intending to put up a crab farming unit in the state of Goa.
The applicant has to be a resident of Goa for more than 15 years.
The participant has to complete a course on Crab Farming offered by either the Fisheries Department, MPEDA, ICAR or any such other Agencies.
These provisions make sure that the scheme is availed by willing and interested persons or communities for crab farming and active participation in the region.
To participate in the Mud Crab Farming in India scheme, one must apply with the above documents which include the following:
Completed Application Form in the prescribed format.
Joint Photograph of Applicant.
Original Survey Plan showing the neighboring area.
Details of the Engineering Layout of the proposed crab culture unit.
Project Report involving crab farming.
Legal documents, Affidavit (see Form 1 & Form 14 for the proposed land).
Certificate of No Objection (N.O.C) from Local Panchayat.
If the traditional farm exists, then proof of the existence of the farm.
Ownership or Leased Document of the land.
Certificate of Residence covering 15 years of residency in Goa.
Crab Farming Completion Certificate from recognised institutions.
Mandate Form for payment purposes.
The application procedure for the Setting up of the crab culture unit pdf is very simple and easy although all processes have to be offline. Here’s a step-by-step guide:
Download and Print the Application Form: Applicants must first download and print out the appropriate application form available in the Department of Fisheries.
Fill in the Application Form: The form will require basic information from the applicant; imagine that the basic requirements are filling in the name, address, and the actual photograph which is passport size and is put on the form(if needed).
Submit the Application: The application form that has been completed and signed and has [Any original document] and additional documents should be forwarded to the Department of Fisheries situated at Dayanand Bandodkar Marg, Patto Colony, Panaji, Goa – 403 521 or the BDO office or Sub offices of the Department of Fisheries Any one of them or appropriate officer, at the Gavinagaon Block Development office.
Any person who feels dissatisfaction or complaint concerning the scheme or its services is free to contact the Department's Grievance Redressal Officer. Further, complaints can be made to the email at dir-fish.goa@nic.in. All complaints will be acted upon and a response provided within 30 days of receipt of the complaint.
